Scarlett Johansson had the honor of portraying Alabama Senator Katie Britt in Saturday Night Live’s spoofing of her response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union earlier this week.
Britt, once a rising star in the Republican party and a possible candidate to serve as Donald Trump’s VP, essentially torpedoed her political career with an overly melodramatic speech that was mocked by liberals and conservatives alike.
Johansson’s portrayal of Britt debuted during this weekend’s cold opening. “Good evening America, my name is Katie Britt, and I have the honor of serving the people of the great state of Alabama,” she began. “But tonight, I’ll be auditioning for the part of scary mom.”
“I’ll be performing an original monologue called ‘This country is hell,’” she continued. “You see, I’m not just a senator. I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest bitch in the Target parking lot.”
From the hand gestures, to the strained whispers, to the kitchen setting, Johansson and SNL absolutely knocked this one out of the park.
