Mr. Big have announced their 10th studio album, simply titled Ten, which arrives July 12th.
The hard rock vets also offered up lead single “Good Luck Trying.” The song is built around a strutting blues riff from guitarist Paul Gilbert and unfurls at a fast pace. If the verses carry a heavy Led Zeppelin vibe, then the slowed-down chorus is more Bad Company, opening up space for frontman Eric Martin’s strong vocal delivery.
“Overall, it’s about being overwhelmed with life, and realizing that you won’t win many of the battles, but still fighting to the end,” stated Gilbert on the lyrics. “And keeping a sense of humor about it by saying to anyone nearby, ‘Wish me good luck trying!’”
Ten was produced by Jay Ruston and Mr. Big. The band’s lineup features Martin, Gilbert, and Billy Sheehan alongside drummer Nick D’Virgilio, who took over for the late Pat Torpey in 2023. The album is dedicated to Torpey, who helped formed the band in 1988, and was a member until his passing in 2018.
“This new album doesn’t copy anything from the nine previous studio records… it’s all new stuff from scratch,” said Martin. “This is raw, unadulterated riff rock and blues with all the Mr. Big trimmings.”
The new album will arrive after the completion of the current US leg of Mr. Big’s farewell tour (get tickets here), and just prior to a summer UK/European leg.
