If you are a trendy young Aussie and you’re looking to get a glimpse of next year’s fashion trends, you’ve come to the right place, as we offer a sneak peek at what will be on Australian catwalks in 2024. The theme is sustainable clothing, green garments and accessories with eco-friendly fabrics.

Here are some of the trends to hit Australian catwalks in 2024.

Bold colours

Carrying on from 2023, bright colours are everywhere, which is perfect for the Australian summer. Neon is making a comeback, with long socks, head and wristbands stealing the show. Wavy hair is in and with an auto hair curler, you can create the perfect hairstyle.

Asymmetry

2024 is the year of asymmetry, especially with clothing; unusual shapes and designs are the result of designers flexing their creativity muscles and it seems like anything goes in 2024.

Animalist prints

Leopards, cougars and tigers are all mimicked with the latest prints; striking colour contrasts are in, with glitzy costume jewellery. Spandex is still alive and kicking, while other synthetic stretch fabrics are being seen in top fashion shows.

Retro fashion returns

Fashion typically moves in cycles and the retro style is due to arrive very soon. The 1920s saw an amazing transformation, while the roaring forties is another in look at this time. Google the top Australian fashion mags and check out what the experts are saying about retro, which is both classy and elegant.

Stoned denim

If you are old enough, you will remember the 1970s when stone-washed denim was all the rage and this Xmas and New Year is a great time to sport stone-washed denim; Tears and rips are also in so get a knife to your old jeans and create something original.

Chunky jewellery

Bling has been in for a couple of years, so go through your jewellery box and see what you have in that department. If you don’t have any chunky jewellery, the online jeweller has you covered, with inexpensive costume jewellery and they have a huge catalogue, so you’re sure to find something that gels with your outfit. Very short shorts

Those long, baggy shorts might not get an airing in 2024, as short shorts are in with a bang; the shorter, the better! Versace has hinted that their 2024 spring/summer collections will include sexy deep-cut shorts that are very revealing and here’s a scoop, guys will be wearing them too!

Pockets

Pockets of all shapes and sizes will be on show in 2024, so you won’t have to worry about where to store your essential accessories. Overalls with a large front pocket, deep pockets on fatigues and pockets on the sleeves of jackets.

Shoulder bags

The style for 2024 is big cloth bags that are typically seen on the beach, bright colours and floral designs; check out Vogue’s latest editions for a sneak look at some of the shoulder bags.

So, now you know what the fashion designers are working on for next spring/summer, you can search the web for the best deals.
