Our man in Hall H hardly knew anything about Dungeons & Dragons before the movie’s panel to kick off SDCC. And now it’s something on his radar.
My first panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 was the grand return for Hall H: Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Going into the Paramount Pictures presentation, the first since 2019 at the convention center for a film studio, my only knowledge about the D&D franchise came from whatever I learned from Stranger Things. I’ve never played Dungeons & Dragons, so the movie was hardly on my radar. All I knew was it was supposed to be a fantasy epic and that our games team on Screen Rant loves it.
After attending the panel, I can now say I’m looking forward to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. The movie looks like a lot of fun!
In addition to the first official Dungeons & Dragons trailer, we were treated to two exclusive clips. One was a very humorous sequence where the main characters reanimated corpses to discover the location of a special helmet. It delivered a lot of laughs and had a Monty Python vibe. I was unaware of the film’s comedic elements and was pleasantly surprised by the clip. The other sequence was a big action set piece where characters are being hunted in a maze by a panther-like creature. It was exciting and tense, showcasing a different side of the movie. Both clips were very entertaining.
Comic-Con 2022 is set to be dominated by fantasy, with Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon set to have their own Hall H panels later in the week. Dungeons & Dragons is set to face a lot of competition for its target audience over the convention, but their panel was a great start to the marketing campaign and proved you don’t have to be a die-hard to enjoy the movie.
