Kim Kardashian is promoting her newly launched skincare company SKKN, and The Kardashians fans think they know why it’s not performing well.
Kim Kardashian is trying to garner support around her newly launched SKKN brand, but The Kardashians’ fans think it’s not performing well. The SKIMS founder has tossed her hat into the ring of celebrity-led skincare lines. The billionaire mogul typically strikes gold whenever she embarks on a business venture. However, between the controversy surrounding the name of her new brand and the price of the skincare products, fans think Kim’s stake in the oversaturated skincare industry won’t produce profitable results.
The busy mother of four has been on a promo run spreading the word about her new skincare company. Kim filed the trademark for the brand last year and faced a cease-and-desist over the company’s name. Another skincare company under the name SKKN+ accused Kim of trying to steal their pre-existing brand name. With Kim moving forward with the launch shows that the powerful reality star was able to work out a deal to continue using the name for her brand.
Now as Kim promotes the new company, it’s receiving mixed reviews due to its likeness to other celebrity-led skincare lines. Reddit user u/Content_Simple7647 blasted SKKN and gave their reasoning for why Kim’s skincare line is “flopping.” The critic accused Kim of thinking she can enter any business market due to her fame and superstar status. The Redditor doesn’t think skincare consumers will purchase just “ordinary overpriced products,” which does nothing but make Kim, who credited Kanye West for SKKN branding, more rich and powerful. Another Redditor explained why SKKN might not perform so well due to how competitive the skincare market is. “Most people are happy with whatever skincare products they’re using and tend to be less trusting with celebrity treatments in this department,” the user said.
Kim’s line has been drawing comparisons to Hailey Bieber’s Rhode skincare line and Lori Harvey’s SKN By LH line. The Redditor explained why Hailey’s skincare line might be better perceived than SKKN since it can be “layered” on top of your makeup. “I wish Kim just relaunched her beauty brand,” they concluded. Nonetheless, she still plans to relaunch her KKW brand after Kim went through a rebrand last year, including her KKW Fragrance. However, Kim has since halted the fragrance rebrand amid another one that will come with a new name and look for the beauty line. Many fans think Kim has entered into an “oversaturated” market and will find it harder to sell her skincare products than she has with her beauty and loungewear lines.
Kim is also the second of her sisters to launch a skincare company. Kylie Jenner has her Kylie Skin line as part of her Kylie Cosmetics empire. The Kardashians family is used to launching brands that perform well among consumers. Kim has all the money and resources she’ll need to take SKKN to the top of the skincare market, but she has many other celebrities with skincare lines to complete with. Only time will tell if Kim can turn SKKN into another SKIMS that continues her billionaire net worth.
