Ryan Reynolds and Randall Park called back to a beloved moment from The Office in the latest teaser for John Krasinski‘s new movie IF. In the ad, Ryan Reynolds, who is also one of the film’s stars, appears backstage, speaking about the flick. Park then interrupts by taking the director’s chair and introducing himself as Krasinski, who wrote, directed and stars in IF.
“Wait wait wait, hold on. What are you doing?,” asks Reynolds. Park keeps the bit going, saying, “I’m talking about our movie.” Reynolds responds, “You’re not John Krasinski. You’re Randall Park. John Krasinski is much shorter and less Asian.”
Reynolds then resorts to quizzing Park to prove he’s actually the director. Eventually, the Fresh Off the Boat alum announces that the sneak peek can wait until Sunday. The bit continues on throughout the mock behind-the-scenes featurette, with Park standing in for Krasinski.
The whole video is a nod to The Office‘s season 9 episode “Andy’s Ancestry” opening prank, in which Jim gets his actor friend (Park) to pretend to be him while he’s at the dentist, much to Dwight (Rainn Wilson)’s chagrin.
IF, which is a live-action animated family film, was first announced in Oct. 2019. The Walking Dead‘s Cailey Fleming stars as Bea, a girl who realizes she has the power to see everyone’s imaginary friends who’ve been left behind, which are referred to as “IFs.” Bea teams up with her neighbor, The Man Upstairs (Reynolds), who also shares her abilities, to reconnect the IFs with their adult former friends.
IF features an all-star cast voicing the IFs, including Steve Carell, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Maya Rudolph, Jon Stewart, Louis Gossett Jr., Awkwafina, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Meloni, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco and Richard Jenkins.
