Leaked details about a second Call of Duty: Warzone 2 multiplayer map indicates the sequel won’t make the same mistake as its predecessors.
An industry insider has leaked information about a second Call of Duty: Warzone 2 map, suggesting the new battle royale title will avoid mistakes made by CoD installments. Trusted Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson shared alleged details about Warzone 2’s map just last week by recreating what the map could look like based on its main features. The mock-up depicted a surprisingly large piece of real estate surrounded by water and populated with railroad tracks, densely built-up areas, and various points of interest.
A formal announcement for Call of Duty: Warzone sequel has yet to go live, though developer Infinity Ward did confirm the title’s existence during a press event in February of this year. Publisher Activision Blizzard also mentioned the follow-up entry in an earnings report in April, claiming the experience will come packed with a number of “groundbreaking innovations.” While Infinity Ward is building Warzone 2 alongside MW2, the quarterly report from Activision notes that a full reveal for the new free-to-play adventure won’t be ready for primetime until later in 2022. Such a wait for concrete information hasn’t kept the sequel out of the news cycle, however.
In a report for eXputer, industry insider Tom Henderson claimed a second map for Call of Duty: Warzone 2 has already entered production. This seems to indicate the usually long gap between new maps won’t prove an issue for COD’s next battle royale experience. However, Henderson noted that his sources have no word on when exactly Infinity Ward intends to release the second locale in its post-launch schedule. The leaker spoke to one source who participated in a recent playtest and said the map appeared in the game menu. Though the map remains unplayable, those supposedly in the know estimate it could boast a size similar to that of the original Warzone’s Rebirth Island. People familiar with the project also told Henderson that a company-wide meeting several months ago targeted Warzone 2 for a release “a couple of months after MW2.” Should this prove accurate, the next Warzone could arrive sometime between December 2022 and January 2023.
Earlier this year, another report from Tom Henderson suggested Warzone 2 would “come with Modern Warfare 2.” The leaker said at the time it was unclear if that meant the two shooters would launch on the same day. Henderson’s latest report on the matter hints that will not be the case. As always, though, Warzone faithful would do well to take all of the above with a grain of salt for the time being.
This latest Warzone 2 leak comes only a week after Activision Blizzard shared a teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The teaser didn’t feature gameplay or any other content-related specifics, but it did confirm the sequel’s October 28 release date. Now Call of Duty players patiently await a full reveal, which could hit the web this coming June.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 is in development for PC and consoles.
