As soon as players jump into Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, they will receive enough cards to be able to play. They will be random draws, but the majority of players are likely to get several of the same cards that are perfect for starting. Completing the first few story chapters will give players specific cards, such as the Niffler.
Though players can obtain any card available once they can draw cards as they are completely random, some are better for new players still learning the mechanics of everything as they require less strategizing to make the most out of.
Best Cards For New Players
First and foremost, if players can get their hands on some of the more powerful spells early on, they should absolutely add them to their hand. These include both of the Dark Cards, Avada Kedavra and Crucio, two of the unforgivable curses in Harry Potter, and Sectumsempra. Of the three, Avada Kedavra is the best option for a starter deck as it is the highest damaging focused spell. Regardless, any of these three can be a great way to do large amounts of damage while still getting the hang of things.
As for filling out the rest of the deck, players must consider their best companion options and supporting spells based on their Echo.
Early on, players will unlock the Echos of Dobby, Harry Potter, and Snape as long as they are completing challenges in Harry Potter‘s dangerous Forbidden Forest. Of the starting three, Snape is a solid option for early and late games, but Harry Potter isn’t too bad early on either when using lower-costing cards. In terms of Companions, players should be sure to consider what is the most useful to them, healing, protection, or damage boosts, and go from there.
Hagrid is a popular favorite and usually obtainable very early/ Players can also consider the Frey Twins as an excellent early option too.
With Spells and Summons, players will want to make the best of what they have and stay well-rounded. So ensure that there are both excellent defensive and offensive cards. In some cases, Summons are not going to be incredibly helpful, especially if very weak against strong enemies, but in general, one or two are not bad to include. Popular favorites early on include the Monster Book of Monsters, which can be swapped for the Stack Card later, and Spiders, which are also good distractions. For the rest of the Spells, there’s no wrong option; everything is viable in Harry Potter: Magic Awakened; just be sure to the Damage, Control, and Heal stats and level them up as often as possible.
