An upcoming war in Gotham is going to pit Red Hood against Batman and his allies. As Catwoman launches a war to take back the city, Jason Todd is being set up to stab the Bat-Family in the back.
Since Jason Todd came back from the dead, he’s occasionally been at odds with Batman and the other heroes of Gotham. As Red Hood, Jason was lethal in his crusades against crime, often earning him scorn from his family. But he tried to rein in his violent impulses and abide by the family’s no-kill code. Unfortunately, Jason’s past with the Joker has always brought out his worst instincts. In Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing, Red Hood was warned that Batman was losing patience with Jason, only for the young man to give in to his dark side and shoot the Joker (though it was only Clayface pretending to be the clown).
Red Hood is Leaving the Bat-Family For Catwoman
And it looks like Red Hood’s antagonizing of Batman is only going to get worse in the coming months. In DC Comics’ solicitations for September, fans got a look at the upcoming titles, including the opening half of “Gotham War”, DC’s next big crossover event. Bruce and Selina are going to war over Gotham, and one figure central to the fight is Jason. Matthew Rosenberg and Nikola Čižmešija are teaming up to create Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham Game: Red Hood #1, which the solicitation claims will “forever alter the destiny of the man who wears the Red Hood!“. While details of the miniseries are under wraps, the covers hint that Jason is siding with Catwoman. Carmine Di Giandomenico’s cover shows Red Hood standing beside Catwoman while Karl Kerschl’s cover shows Jason being tempted by an angelic Selina on his shoulder.
Selina has a plan to establish a new status quo in Gotham by stealing as much money as possible from Gotham’s wealthiest and giving it to the poor. Of course, Selina knows this won’t fly with Batman. But she also knows the Bat-Family well enough to know Jason is the outlier of the team. If Catwoman is looking to make changes, it makes sense for her to recruit the person who has historically had the most problems with how Batman runs things. If Bruce really has washed his hands of Jason, Selina could easily convince Red Hood to become her secret weapon.
Catwoman Needs Red Hood To Win Her War Against Batman
Selina has recruited some strong warriors to her side, but she’s going to need an enforcer that can go toe-to-toe with Batman. Red Hood is the perfect person for Catwoman to bring over to her side, and given the struggles Jason has had recently, he might be more than willing to join her. Bruce has always been adamant about his no-kill policy, but Selina is far more morally flexible. She could easily convince Jason that her way can change Gotham for the better and give him free rein to be as brutal as he needs to be. It won’t be an easy choice for Jason, but if it comes down to it, he just may choose Catwoman over the Bat-Family. Fans can see what the antihero’s decision will be in Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham Game: Red Hood #1, on sale September 26th.
