The Amazing Race season 34 will feature a new twist called “The Scramble,” among other notable changes. CBS’s long-running competition, which rewards the winning team with $1 million, has kept viewers at the edge of their seats since its first season in 2001. Since its debut, The Amazing Race has continually evolved and is now an internationally recognized franchise, with multiple spin-offs in many countries. So far, there have been 33 completed seasons of The Amazing Race. The 33rd edition was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but was still a success.
The Amazing Race season 34 cast was announced in August, featuring Big Brother alums Derek Xiao and Claire Rehfuss. Another notable name among the 12-team cast is former NFL coach Rex Ryan, who’s teaming up with golf enthusiast Tim Mann. An interesting team comprises long-lost twins Emily Bushnell and Molly Sinert, who met for the first time a year ago. Other teams include childhood sweethearts Abby Garrett and Will Freeman, engaged couple Aastha Lal and Nina Duong, married couple Michelle Burgos and Luis Colon, and recently-married couple Glenda and Lumumba Roberts. Ballroom dancers Aubrey Ares and David Hernandez, father-daughter duo Linton and Sharik Atkinson, and brothers Marcus and Michael Craig also make up the cast, as well as former NFL cheerleaders Quinton Peron and Mattie Lynch and motivational speakers Rich Kuo and Dom Jones.
The Amazing Race season 34 is about to premiere on CBS. The show’s fans got a glimpse of what to expect via a five-minute clip made available to EW. Of course, fans already knew that The Amazing Race season 34 will be the first-ever installment to begin outside the United States, but there are still more surprises. For example, long-time host Phil Keoghan introduced a new twist called “The Scramble,” which allows teams to complete the three premiere challenges in any order they want rather than doing them in a specific order. Fans will enjoy the new twist, which makes the game chaotic and intense.
In the Amazing Race season 34 premiere clip, the teams arrived at Nymphenburg Palace, where host Phil welcomed them. Besides The Scramble, Phil also informed the Amazing Race contestants of the other twists to expect, including this being the first time the reality competition series is starting outside the U.S. and that there will be no non-elimination legs for the first time. The absence of non-elimination legs means that whoever arrives last during a leg will be eliminated. Thus, viewers will be hoping their early favorites have enough energy to carry them through to avoid elimination. From the five-minute clip of The Amazing Race premiere, there is a lot to be excited about.
After watching the first five minutes of the new season, fans are itching for the Amazing Race season 34 premiere. The fans may also wonder how the participating teams will navigate The Scramble. They could potentially choose their challenges according to the difficulty level or geography, or they might even utilize the “eeny-meeny-miny-moe” method. The answer to this speculation and so much more will be discovered when The Amazing Race returns.
The Amazing Race season 34 premieres September 21 at 10 p.m. EDT on CBS.
