Bridgerton season 3 star Nicola Coughlan hints filming on the hit Netflix series is about to resume by sharing two behind the scenes posts.
Bridgerton season 3 lead Nicola Coughlan teases the start of filming with a sly behind the scenes image. Netflix’s hit Regency romance series has been nothing short of a major success since it initially premiered in December 2020. This past March, Bridgerton season 2 premiered to what was then record numbers for the streamer (Stranger Things season 4 has since taken over). The new episodes revolved around the enemies-to-lovers romance between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), following in the same pattern as author Julia Quinn’s book series.
However, Bridgerton season 3 is poised to be a departure from Quinn’s original line-up. Whereas the third Bridgerton book revolves around aspiring artist Benedict (Luke Thompson), the Netflix series will shift ahead to bring Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) to the forefront. The first two seasons of Bridgerton have spent time establishing Penelope’s crush on Colin, and the season 2 finale set the stage for their relationship by having Colin publicly brush off the idea of courting Penelope – while she was in earshot. Aside from the confirmation about its focus, there have been few updates about Bridgerton season 3.
While Netflix was initially quiet about the timeline for Bridgerton season 3, Coughlan has seemingly confirmed that filming is just around the corner. Much like her alter ego Lady Whistledown, Coughlan sparked intrigue by posting an image reading “Bridgerton 3. Ep One,” on her Instagram stories. Even before that, she shared a picture of herself and Newton, which can also be seen down below.

Since season 1 was an overnight success that led to a 3-season renewal, Bridgerton season 2 commenced filming in March 2021. That was only a mere two months after the show premiered, though it would still hit some setbacks due to the coronavirus pandemic. With Bridgerton season 3 likely eyeing a production start within the coming weeks, it seems that audiences can expect to see Colin and Penelope’s romance come to life in early 2023. This is assuming production will stretch on for several months; hopefully, it will avoid the various shutdowns Bridgerton season 2 had to endure.
Bridgerton remains one of Netflix’s biggest shows, and following the positive reception season 2 got, it seems likely that the streamer will be eager to have viewers return to the ton as soon as possible. Most of the cast members from previous seasons are expected to return, including Bailey and Ashley following the conclusion of Anthony and Kate’s story. Bridgerton season 3 has the advantage of focusing on a romance involving two characters audiences are familiar with, so anticipation is already high. As Coughlan has seen fit to tease fans with what’s to come between her character and Colin, it can be assumed she will find ways to keep everyone updated about Bridgerton season 3’s filming schedule. One would expect no less from Lady Whistledown herself.
