The new Justice League has formed, but a former member is staking his claim as the group’s leader – and he’s not mincing words.
Warning! Spoilers for Dark Crisis #2 by DC Comics
A new Justice League has risen following the deaths of some of DC’s greatest heroes, but Black Adam is already fighting to become the leader of the heroic superteam. In Dark Crisis #2 from DC Comics, Black Adam not only tells Jon Kent’s Superman isn’t ready to lead the team but says he was also wrong about his previous choice, Nightwing, in picking up the slack. The antihero appoints himself the leader, saying it’s his “burden” to lead the Justice League.
The Justice League was “killed” in a recent battle protecting the Multiverse, with Pariah and the Great Darkness sending the heroes to different realities. In their place, Jon Kent’s Superman formed a new Justice League, featuring an odd assortment of heroes and villains, such as Blue Beetle, Aquaman, Booster Gold, Dr. Light, Frankenstein, and Harley Quinn. While Kent is doing his best to lead the Justice League, Black Adam calls out the hero again while inserting himself as the team’s new leader.
In Dark Crisis #2 by Joshua Williamson, Daniel Sampere, Alejandro Sanchez, and Tom Napolitano from DC Comics, Superman and Nightwing fight against Deathstroke, Cyborg Superman, and his army, as the villain levels Titans Tower. When the dust settles, Black Adam arrives at the scene and calls out Jon Kent for not being ready to lead the new Justice League. Additionally, he tells Nightwing that he was wrong about him and that the tragedy at Titans Tower was his fault. Superman asks Black Adam why he doesn’t just lead the Justice League and go after Deathstroke. The antihero says that’s exactly what he plans to do, as he has “no choice but to agree with [Superman]…” while adding it his “burden to lead this team.”
Black Adam truly believes he’s the only person capable of leading the Justice League. However, he was only briefly a team member, only having a short stint on the roster filled with clashes with his fellow heroes. But, as the lone survivor of the Death of the Justice League, Black Adam, he wants to make sure the world is prepared for whatever threat is thrown their way, even if that means carrying the “burden” of being the new leader of the Justice League during the Dark Crisis.
While Black Adam might have pulled rank with the Justice League’s original members gone, his ego and coldness might not make him the best leader for the team as the DC Universe is in crisis. Still, Black Adam is adamant about stepping into the role and guiding the Justice League in a time of need, even if it means making enemies of Superman and Nightwing.
