Paramount+ is quietly changing the name of its ad-free tier. This change comes just two years after Paramount+ rebranded their top streaming tier to Paramount+ with Showtime. Since the merger, Showtime has brought Paramount+ some of its most popular shows, including Yellowjackets, The L Word, and The Chi. For Paramount+, the merger with Showtime has been a clear success. Yellowjackets was just renewed for season 4, and that serious streaming success first came to Paramount+ through Showtime. Although Paramount made an official announcement when they first merged with Showtime on streaming, the latest shift has happened with little fanfare.
Now, Paramount+ has removed Showtime from the name of their ad-free plan, and it will be called Paramount+ Premium instead of Paramount+ with Showtime. However, this does not mean that Showtime’s shows are leaving Paramount+. On the contrary, according to the platform, “a sampling of SHOWTIME programming” is now available at all levels on Paramount+.
What The Name Change Means For The Top Tier Of Streaming On Paramount+
Showtime Is Now Available For More Viewers
For most users of Paramount+ as a streaming platform, the name change from Paramount+ with Showtime to Paramount+ Premium probably won’t mean very much. For subscribers who already use the ad-free tier, the only difference will be the name itself. Paramount+ still charges $12.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and all the Showtime shows that audiences loved will still be available on Paramount+.
All the Showtime shows that audiences loved will still be available on Paramount+.
For subscribers to the Paramount+ Essential plan, however, this change means that some new shows are available. It is clear that Paramount+ is trying to tempt more subscribers into paying for the higher tier by giving audiences a sample of the available shows. Given how popular the Showtime shows have been, only time will tell if Paramount+’s marketing plan works out.

There are, however, some viewers who may still see the Paramount+ with Showtime name. For those who subscribe to Paramount+ through a streaming service or cable bundle, the tier may still appear as Paramount+ with Showtime for some viewers. Regardless of the name change, however, the actual shows and benefits that are available to premium subscribers won’t be changing.
Our Take On The Paramount+ Name Change
A Small Step Away From Showtime
While it is interesting that Paramount+ is changing the name of their ad-free subscription tier, it probably does not mean very much for the platform as a whole. On the one hand, the name change does suggest that Paramount+ does not feel like it needs to advertise its partnership with Showtime as prominently.
The biggest change associated with the name change is that some Showtime shows are now available to all users of Paramount+.
On the other hand, the inclusion of a few Showtime shows in the less expensive tiers of Paramount+ suggests that Paramount+ still values Showtime as an asset. For now, it is safe to say that the biggest change to Paramount+ is just the name change, and all the shows that audiences love will still be available.
