Melissa Gorga is shutting down fan criticism claiming she was only cast on The Real Housewives of New Jersey because of Teresa Giudice.
Melissa Gorga says the reason she was cast on The Real Housewives of New Jersey has nothing to do with co-star Teresa Giudice. Melissa and Joe Gorga have been speaking out amid her fallout with Teresa. The sisters-in-law ended season 12 in a rough patch after making a bold revelation at the reunion. Tired of faking it for the cameras, Melissa got Teresa to own up to the fact that they don’t hang out outside of filming.
The tension ignited after Teresa snubbed Melissa as a bridesmaid in her wedding but included Luis Ruelas’ two sisters. Joe took to Melissa’s podcast to call out his sister for not inviting his wife to her wedding but inviting new in-laws. He went on to make claims of holding down the show and Teresa’s household while she served an 11-month prison sentence. Joe even quipped that his nieces would be “homeless” had he not helped the family during the trying time. Melissa also encouraged Teresa to quit the show if she was so miserable during filming.
The bold claims point to the tension between the family since wrapping season 12. Melissa isn’t slowing down from subtly shading her sister-in-law. She recently shut down the Teresa fans who make claims that the Gorgas were only cast on the show because of their family drama with the show OG. “I mean, Do people think that if Teresa wasn’t on the show and Bravo came to interview Joe and I — we wouldn’t have made it onto the show — but all of these other people would have?” Melissa said on the Mention It All podcast. She blasted the “silly” claims without mentioning the likelihood that Bravo was more interested in casting the brother and sister-in-law of the show’s main star.
During the reunion, Teresa made references to how Melissa was cast on the show, something host Andy Cohen told the OG to move past. Melissa explained how “forbidden” the topic is because of how dated the claims are. “Everyone at Bravo says [to Teresa], ‘You’re not allowed to say that anymore.’ We are so past that,” Melissa said. Considering how long Melissa has appeared on the show, she doesn’t think Teresa is that much more of a veteran. “At this point, I’ve been on the show since season 3 – and in season 1 they only did six episodes – so I’m not that many episodes behind whatever she has done,” Melissa quipped. The Gorgas have been defending their place on the show since fans started criticizing the couple for having minor storylines in recent seasons.
With Teresa always being at the center of the drama, Melissa is often placed in the middle of her sister-in-law’s cast feuds. But with Teresa and Melissa having a scarred history of their own, the pair typically end up in more drama if Melissa doesn’t take Teresa Giudice’s side. The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars are in one of the worst feuds they’ve had in years. Teresa is preparing to marry Luis at a lavish wedding. Joe and Melissa are still expected to attend. Teresa is his sister. But the tension is thick and will have to be hashed out sooner or later.
