In the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ Moon Knight, a major power of the Fist of Khonshu is confirmed by the Hunter’s Moon.
Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Moon Knight #17
Marvel Comics just confirmed Moon Knight’s greatest power in the best way. Having gone to war with an organization of vampires in New York known as the Structure, Moon Knight’s fellow Fist of Khonshu named the Hunter’s Moon was seemingly murdered by assassins hired by the vampires’ leader known as the Tutor. However, this new issue confirms Fists of Khonshu are effectively unkillable as servants to the Egyptian moon god.
Previously in issues of Marvel’s Moon Knight, Marc Spector was a rival to Dr. Badr, a far more faithful Fist of Khonshu who only allied himself with Marc after he learned of the original Fist’s war against New York’s vampires. After all, vampires were the cause of Badr being near death when he was chosen by Khonshu to be the Hunter’s Moon. Serving the moon god with intense devotion, Badr’s relationship with the mood god couldn’t be more different from Marc who’s still on the outs with Khonshu after the incident with the Avengers (as seen in the “Age of Khonshu” storyline). However, the assassins known as the Nemean and Gran Mal were hired by the Tutor to stop Marc from interfering in his affairs. As a warning to leave the Structure alone, the assassins attacked Badr, brutally beating him and snapping his neck.
With the confirmation of the Hunter’s Moon death at the beginning of Moon Knight #17 from Jed McKay and Alessandro Cappuccio, Marc vengefully captures the two assassins and drags them into the horrifying Midnight Mission, Moon Knight’s new sentient base of operations. After the house effectively breaks their minds, Marc learns where the Structure and the Tutor meet. However, this was preceded by Moon Knight revealing that the Hunter’s Moon is alive and well, having been presumably resurrected by Khonshu.
Marvel Confirms Badr Has Moon Knight’s Greatest Power
Immortality via the will of Khonshu is an established power Marc and the moon god have displayed in past comic storylines. Once, Khonshu killed and brought Spector back to life just to prove how easy it was as a means to keep Marc in line. Now, this issue confirms it’s a power the Hunter’s Moon carries as well as the second and far more devoted Fist of Khonshu. Keeping that in mind, it’s certainly possible Badr may be immortal with Marc having unknowingly lost the privilege. After all, why would Khonshu help Moon Knight when Marc has been perfectly fine letting the moon god remain in an Asgardian prison?
Either way, this issue is the perfect reminder that Fists of Khonshu are basically unkillable thanks to Khonshu, a major miscalculation on the part of the Structure’s assassins. Now, Moon Knight and his allies know exactly where the Tutor is, crashing the Structure’s international meeting with other vampires in an attempt to expand their operation. While it remains to be seen if Moon Knight is still unkillable considering the tension with his god, it’s exciting to see that the Hunter’s Moon definitely is. Moon Knight #17 is on sale now.
