Joe Black from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 is releasing “Joe Black Meets: A Podcast” this week. It will feature conversations with other creatives.
Joe Black, who made his spooky cabaret mark on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2, announced that he’s launching a podcast that’s slated to drop very soon. This queen didn’t have the best luck in the competition, especially when he incited one of the most intense Mama Ru moments in franchise history. But outside of the Werk Room, Joe Black is thriving. He performs regularly throughout the U.K., landed a brief spot on the BBC’s Life After Life, and even dropped an adorable look-alike plush. Now, Joe Black is embarking on his next endeavor with Joe Black Meets: A Podcast.
From the moment Joe Black entered the Werk Room in his sparkling black and green ensemble, he made quite the impression as he said, “I know what you’re thinking…God, Glenn Close looks rough!” However, Joe quickly found himself lip syncing for his life against Bimini Bon Boulash. He was sent home the first day, but was given the chance to return following a multi-month production shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Joe, whose drag persona is typically dark and dramatic, donned a rare hot pink mini dress for the Eurovision girl group Maxi Challenge. Upon learning that the garment was off the rack from H&M, RuPaul went into an unforgettable tirade that continues to be referenced on the show.
After enjoying several post-Drag Race projects, including raffling off the infamous dress to benefit The Sussex House, which provides support for those living with HIV, Joe is entering the world of podcasting. On Instagram, Joe revealed that the premiere episode of Joe Black Meets: A Podcast is expected to drop on Thursday on all major platforms. “It was gonna happen eventually wasn’t it?,” he said. The podcast will feature Joe chatting with other artistic individuals that he’s personally a fan of. “Delving, nattering, gossiping and in general.. just having a gorgeous chat,” he said.
In an introduction episode, Joe shared more details on the concept of the latest drag queen-hosted podcast, which is entirely self-produced. “Essentially I’m very nosey and I find people very interesting. I find artists of all different mediums very unbelievably interesting,” said Joe, who added that he particularly enjoys listening to conversational podcasts between two creatives. According to Joe, special guests range from individuals that listeners are familiar with, to those who are lesser-known. But he promised that each guest’s story is interesting, including one who hid in a cupboard from Yoko Ono. “The guests are absolutely brilliant (and very exciting) and I hope you love listening to them as much as I loved talking to them,” he said.
It’s possible that Joe will chat with some of his fellow RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 2 queens, such as Tia Kofi or Ginny Lemon, since he assured followers that they’ll know some of the guests. There’s always a chance that Mama Ru, who previously hosted the RuPaul: What’s The Tee? podcast with Michelle Visage, will make an appearance to reflect on their H&M altercation. Maybe Joe even secured a chat with Glenn Close herself. For now, one thing can be assumed: anything Joe Black does is perfectly campy, creative and creepy, and Joe Black Meets: A Podcast will likely be no different.
