The upcoming Prime Video film The Wrecking Crew is already off to a great start, according to its Rotten Tomatoes score. Game of Thrones‘ Jason Momoa and Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista are joining forces for the new action movie, which is rated R and will be released on Prime Video on January 28.
With just days to go until its release on Prime Video, critics have started sharing their reviews of The Wrecking Crew, which is debuting with an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Momoa and Bautista’s on-screen charisma and comedic timing are receiving high praise from critics. The film itself is being called a guilty pleasure and entertaining, even if the story isn’t treading new ground.
In The Wrecking Crew, Momoa and Bautista star as half-brothers Jonny Hale (a police officer) and James Hale (a Navy SEAL) who team up to solve the mystery surrounding their father’s death, which was originally thought to be caused by a hit-and-run.
Along the way, they uncover shocking conspiracies and revelations that will test their family in ways never before seen, all while they try to overcome their disagreements with each other.
Momoa and Bautista’s Wrecking Crew co-stars include Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Stephen Root, Morena Baccarin, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Maia Kealoha, Lydia Peckham and Stephen Oyoung.
Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto helmed the Prime Video film, with a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project, See, Your Friends and Neighbors and the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter).
Over the years, Momoa has starred in such projects as Game of Thrones, Aquaman, Dune, Fast X, A Minecraft Movie and Chief of War.
After starting out as a wrestler with the WWE, Bautista launched an acting career. His film credits include Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption, Guardians of the Galaxy, Blade Runner 2049, Hotel Artemis, My Spy, Army of the Dead, Dune, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and more.
The two actors starred together on Apple TV’s See, a sci-fi series about a society in which its citizens no longer have their eyesight. They also starred in Dune as Duncan Idaho and Glossu Rabban, respectively.
Now Momoa and Bautista are coming together for the Prime Video movie The Wrecking Crew, which was filmed in Hawaii and New Zealand. Based on the trailer, the film promises to be an action-packed and entertaining ride with plenty of fights, explosions, car chases and comedy along the way.
Soto has said he’s open to directing a sequel should The Wrecking Crew prove successful. Based on these initial reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems like the filmmaker might get his wish, assuming that audiences turn out to be just as excited about the film as the critics are.
The Wrecking Crew will be released on Wednesday, January 28 on Prime Video.
