To unlock the Scythe in CoD Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, players must complete challenges in the PvE Zombie or PvP Multiplayer modes.
One new melee weapon that has recently taken the spotlight in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is the Scythe, a two-handed melee armament capable of dealing damage in a wide arc with deadly efficiency. Although the Scythe is slightly inferior in its Speed and Mobility to other melee weapons, it more than makes up for its deficiencies thanks to its high range and enhanced damage. For PvE, this weapon in Black Ops Cold War would work ideally well when slaughtering groups of enemy mobs, such as in the various Zombie horde modes. One swing can cut down multiple enemies at once, making it an excellent choice for such scenarios.
The Scythe was introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in a recent title update on June 6 of this year. After completing the challenges to unlock this weapon, many players and influencers were able to get their hands on it and use it in combat. Unfortunately, while the feedback on the Scythe was generally positive, Treyarch, the developers behind Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, realized that they had released the weapon prematurely.
As a result, Treyarch removed the Scythe from the game, including the challenges required to unlock the weapon in CoD: Black Ops Cold War. According to the official Twitter for TreyarchCM, a Trello update was announced regarding the Scythe’s progress and unlock update. The Tweet read, “Players may have noticed that the Scythe unlock challenges were unintentionally available this morning for a short time and then later removed. Details have been outlined on Trello.” Accordingly, there is currently no way to get this item at the moment, which is an unfortunate situation that may dishearten many Call of Duty fans.
Unlocking The Scythe In CoD Black Ops Cold War & Warzone
On the bright side, closer inspection of the Trello post for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will reveal to players, “The Scythe is currently scheduled to release later this year with timing subject to change.” Furthermore, the developers have stated in the same post that those who started the unlock process in Black Ops Cold War but did not yet receive the Scythe will still retain their previous challenge progress. In other words, it is highly likely the same challenges will appear in an update in the near future for acquiring the Scythe.
Here are the two in-game challenges that were prematurely given to players for unlocking the Scythe:
- Multiplayer Mode: get two kills using a melee weapon while Ninja or Dead Silence is active in 15 different completed matches
- Zombies Mode: kill 200 enemies while Insta-Kill is active while using a primary melee weapon
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone are available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
