When playing as a Sourcerer in Divinity: Original Sin II, players will eventually have to complete a quest called Threads of a Curse. The quest is available for players to complete in Fort Joy, which rewards a powerful armor set that players can use for the main story.
The quest will be available about halfway through the first Act, which means players should be Level 4 before commencing the side quest. While it is one of the more tedious quests in the first Act, players are rewarded with a complete set of Captain Sech Zapor’s armor. This armor is considered one of the best armor sets in Divinity Original Sin 2, making the quest worthwhile to complete.
How To Start The Threads of a Curse Quest
The Threads of a Curse quest in Divinity: Original Sin II will be available to players once they escape from Fort Joy. Players will need to head to a specific beach near the fort’s sewer exit. However, before starting the quest, make sure to send the Sourcerer into Braccus Rex’s Vault to retrace the soul jar. This soul jar belongs to Captain Sech Zapor, which will enable players to locate a note that will lead them to his secret cave.
Players will find a skeletal arm at a shipwreck around X: 363, Y: 79 that will commence this quest.
After finding the skeletal arm in the sand, the Sourcerer will have to pass a persuasion check-in, either strength or finesse. If passed, this check will allow the Sourcerer to pull the arm free from the sand. Once freed, the arm will wriggle about before pointing deeper into the Hollow Marshes.
Make sure to grab the hand before heading in the direction it points.
As the Sourcerer travels, throw the arm down periodically to ensure they are heading in the right direction. Eventually, this will lead the Sourcerer to a point on Divinity: Original Sin II‘s map around X:532, and Y:20. This is another shoreline area with several more crashed ships. In the center is a cursed chest. If one of the Sourcerers casts Bless on the chest, it will remove the curse and allow them to access the chest.
How To Get Captain Sech Zapor’s Armor Set
Captain Sech will reveal himself and threaten the character attempting to open the chest. This will require the main character to pass another plus two persuasion checks or deal with five enemies summoned by the Captain. If the Sourcerer passes the check, they can trade the soul jar for his coat. If not, they can take it from his body alongside the rest of the Captain’s armor set in Divinity: Original Sin II.
If the Sourcerer brought the soul jar, inside the chest will be the Captain’s Log with a code for the door of a cave at X:600, Y:195, northeast of the beach where the winter dragon is chained. If not, there is no need to reload. Take Beast along in the party, and he will get a special dialogue to yell at the door until it opens. In the cave, the Sourcerer can gain the last two pieces of the armor set.
The Sourcerer will have to pass another persuasion check before receiving the Captain’s Jaunty Hat and Captain’s Dextrous Heels. Now armed with the full set, the wearer will gain the Comeback Kid trait and the ability to Charm in combat.
If the Sourcerer has failed any persuasion checks, they can still gain all the armor by digging up a buried chest at X:605 and Y: 235.
This will cause the Captain and his crew, if they are still alive, to show up and attack the player. After the fight, the Sourcerer can take whatever pieces they are missing from the armor set and respec the character in Divinity: Original Sin II with the new loot.
