How Old Each Sibling Really Is After Season 2

Just how old are The Umbrella Academy characters? The seven members of the Umbrella Academy were all born at noon on October 1st, 1989, but thanks to some time travel shenanigans, the Hargreeves siblings are all different ages going into The Umbrella Academy season 3. After failing to stop the apocalypse at the end of season 1, Five’s time-travel powers threw the whole family back in time to the 1960s — and much like his previous attempts at time travel, things got messy.

Five, Luther, Allison, Klaus, Ben, Viktor, and Diego, all land in the same alley in Dallas, Texas, but end up scattered over a period of three years at the start of the 1960s. This means that some of them end up stuck in the time period for long enough to start new lives (Allison gets married, and Klaus starts a cult), while others only get a month or two of respite before it’s back to trying to stop the end of the world – which changes their relative ages. The last to exploit Umbrella Academy’s time travel rules is Five, who gets to Dallas just in time to witness a full-blown war between the Soviets and the USA that culminates in both sides launching nuclear missiles at each other. Fortunately, Five’s old friend Hazel is there to help him escape.

Season 1 already raised the question of the Umbrella Academy’s real ages when Five spent a long time stuck in the post-apocalyptic future, and Klaus accidentally time-traveled back to the Vietnam War. In the wake of Five’s botched group trip back in time, they’re even more out of whack. So how old are the Hargreeves siblings by The Umbrella Academy season 3? Here’s everything we know.

Five – 58 Years Old

Umbrella Academy Five And Old Five

Five is the most complicated when it comes to the real ages of The Umbrella Academy characters. After his first disastrous attempt at time travel, Five ended up stuck in the post-apocalyptic future for 45 years with only a mannequin called Dolores for company. He was 13 years old at the time of his disappearance, and in season 1, Five confirms to Luther that his body is 13 years old once again, while his consciousness is still 58. From Five’s perspective, it’s only been a couple of weeks since he jumped back to 2019 and tried to stop the apocalypse the first time around, so he’s still 58 at the beginning of The Umbrella Academy season 3. There is the matter of the time he spent working for the Commission, but time doesn’t seem to pass for the Commission’s agents, since they operate outside of it.

Klaus – 34 Years Old

Umbrella Academy season 2 Klaus

Like most of his siblings, Klaus is 29 years and five months old during the events of The Umbrella Academy season 1 (which is set in March 2019). However, after a mishap involving a stolen Commission briefcase, he travels back in time to 1967, and spends ten months fighting in the Vietnam War, making him 30 years and three months old when he returns to the present. Klaus is also the first to land in the 1960s after the group time-travels to avoid the apocalypse, finding a magazine that puts his and Ben’s arrival date at February 11, 196o. A little more than three years and nine months pass before he is reunited with his siblings, meaning that Klaus has just turned 34 at the beginning of The Umbrella Academy season 3 — though no one could blame him for losing track of his age.

Allison – 31 Years Old

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Allison

Allison also makes answering “how old are the Umbrella Academy characters?” a little tougher. Upon arriving in 1963, Five is fortunate enough to run into a conspiracy nut called Elliot, who has been monitoring the arrival of each member of the Umbrella Academy in the alley outside his store. Elliot’s board of photos and newspaper clippings puts Allison’s arrival date at June 29th, 1961. This means that a little less than two years and five months pass before she is, once again, called upon to stop the apocalypse, making her 31 years old (closing in on 32) for The Umbrella Academy season 3.

Luther – 31 Years Old

Umbrella Academy season 2 Luther

Thanks once again to Elliot’s conspiracy board, people know that Luther arrived in Dallas on April 10, 1962. Finding himself all alone, he starts working for mobster Jack Ruby as a fighter and club bouncer, while periodically returning to the alley to scream Allison’s name. A year and seven months pass before he is finally reunited with Allison and his other siblings, meaning that Luther has just turned 31 years old by the beginning of The Umbrella Academy season 3.

Diego – 29 Years Old

The Umbrella Academy Diego In Uniform

At the start of The Umbrella Academy season 2, Diego lands on September 1st, 1963 — two and a half months before the Kennedy assassination. His superhero aspirations mean that he immediately sets out to try and stop the assassination from taking place, and ends up confined to a mental institution after being caught stalking Lee Harvey Oswald. Though being locked up was no picnic, Diego has one of the shorter sentences in the 1960s and is still 29 years old at the beginning of The Umbrella Academy season 3.

Viktor – 29 Years Old

the umbrella academy season 3 cast

Viktor also follows an interesting timeline regarding the Umbrella Academy characters’ ages. Viktor arrives on October 12th, 1963, just over a month before Five travels back to stop the 1960s version of the apocalypse from happening. This means that he’s now the baby of the family (out of the living family members, anyway) and, like Diego, is still 29 years old. After being immediately hit by a car that Sissy was driving, Viktor spends the first few weeks of their ’60s life experiencing amnesia and blissfully unaware of their (mostly miserable) life so far.

Ben – 16 Years Old

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Ben

Ben’s age is perhaps the most difficult to fathom out of all the members of the Umbrella Academy. Despite being a ghost, he has physically aged alongside Klaus, perhaps because of their strong connection to one another, or perhaps because his appearance is based on Klaus’ perception of him. Whether Ben went back in time with Klaus to Vietnam (which the show has never made clear), this would mean that he has experienced — though not lived through — 33 to 34 years. But regardless of his ghost years, Ben was killed when he was 16 years old and will sadly never grow any older than that. At least… not in the original timeline.

How Old Are The Umbrella Academy Cast?

the umbrella academy season 3 ending explained

The Umbrella Academy cast’s ages aren’t that far off from their characters, except for Five. So, how old are the Umbrella Academy in real life? Aiden Gallagher, who plays Five Hargreeves, was born in September of 2003, making him 18. The actor’s age is the most significant contrast out of the cast, as Five is technically 58 years old. Robert Sheehan, who is Klaus in The Umbrella Academy, is right on target with his character’s age. The actor was born in January of 1988, making him 34 — the same age as Klaus. Emmy Raver-Lampman (Allison Hargreeves) was born in September of 1988, making her 33 years old at the time of writing. This isn’t that far off from Allison’s age, which is 31. Tom Hopper, who plays the muscled behemoth Luther Hargreeves, does deviate slightly from his character’s age. On The Umbrella Academy, Luther is 31 years old, while Hopper was born in January of 1985, making him 37.

Diego’s David Castañeda is slightly older than his The Umbrella Academy character. While Diego is meant to be 29, David was born in October of 1989, making him 32 at the time of writing. Elliot Page’s apocalypse catalyst character Viktor is supposed to be 29 years old in The Umbrella Academy, but the actor is a smidge older. Elliot was born in February of 1987, making him 35 years of age. Finally, the Hargreeves’ deceased brother Ben is supposed to be 16 during the series. However, actor Justin H. Min was born in March of 1990, making the actor 32 years old.

Who Are The Sparrow Academy Members (And How Old Are They?)

The Umbrella Academy season 3 introduces the Sparrow Academy, a mysterious replacement team created by Sir Reginald Hargreeves who may have ulterior motives. But how old is The Sparrow Academy? Their ages have not technically been released yet. However, they are led by a very much alive Ben Hargreeves, and since all of the heroes were born on the same day, their ages can at least be guessed.

At the beginning of The Umbrella Academy season 3, the Umbrella Academy travels back to 2019. But this time, they find that Reginald and Ben are alive — and Ben is the leader of the Sparrow Academy. Ben is markedly different from his ghostly counterpart, both in nature and age. Ghost Ben stayed permanently at 16, but he didn’t die in the current timeline. This makes Ben 30 years old in 2019, given that he would’ve been born in October of 1989.

Related: Is Sparrow Academy More Powerful Than The Umbrella Academy?

The other members of the Sparrow Academy have names, and there is some insight into their characters and powers. Number One is Marcus Hargreeves, who has superhuman strength like Luther. Number Two is Ben, and Fei Hargreeves is Number Three. Fei can manifest flocks of crows to do her bidding. Alphonso is Number Four, and he has a power known as empathetic masochism, which means that he can inflict pain on his own body to hurt others. Number Five is Sloane, who has the intense power of gravity manipulation. Jayme Hargreeves is Number Six, and her power is a little strange, as she has hallucinogenic spit. Finally, Christopher Hargreeves (Number Seven) is a telekinetic cube. It’s not known yet whether he has a human form. The new Umbrella Academy characters are all 30 years old in 2019, provided the timeline is intact.
