Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 actress Karen Gillan has confirmed a major new change for Nebula in the upcoming movie. Ahead of the final chapter in the Guardians trilogy, the Daughter of Thanos has had quite the journey in the MCU. Now, it looks as though Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will continue Nebula’s arc as a true member of the Guardians family (along with some impressive new upgrades).
Confirmed by Gillan on Twitter, Nebula will be sporting a brand-new cybernetic arm in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While it does look more human than her past limbs, it also looks to be based in some kind of nanotechnology. Case in point, Gillan humorously reacted to a portion of a new promo for the next MCU movie, one where Nebula’s arm transforms into an impressive energy canon:
Cleary, it looks as though Nebula will be packing all kinds of firepower in the final Guardians movie.
Nebula Has Some Serious New Upgrades
Although Nebula’s new arm has been revealed in these promos for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, she’ll likely still have quite a few tricks up her sleeve. It certainly seems as though the arm will be able to reconfigure into a variety of different weapons/functions as she needs them. While Thanos was initially responsible for replacing parts of her body with cybernetics as a means to both punish and “improve” his adopted daughter, this is clearly an upgrade motivated by Nebula herself.
It’s also worth noting that Nebula’s features overall have softened as seen in the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. She appears more human and less robotic which was likely a very intentional decision on Nebula’s part as she’s sought to redeem her life and become more than the weapon Thanos had turned her into. The same can be said for her personality as well as she seems more relaxed and even makes some jokes.
All in all, it’s going to be very entertaining to see a new Nebula who’s coming out of her shell, having become a true family member of the Guardians in this last chapter. Likewise, the new upgrades are also going to be a lot of fun, undoubtedly making her one of the team’s heaviest hitters. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to hit theaters on May 5th.
