Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course has a tombstone puzzle that requires a special item to solve, and completing it unlocks a secret area.
The new island in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course has a few secrets to find, including a tombstone puzzle that can be found and solved after the first few bosses are defeated. Solving the tombstone puzzle involves using a special item from the Porkrind Emporium to interact with the graves. However, the tombstones need to be activated in a specific order, and the clues are random for every player.
In order to reach the graveyard, players will need to defeat Moonshine Mob and Esther Winchester or Glumstone the Giant and Mortimer Freeze to unlock the Howling Aces region. Additionally, the Broken Relic charm will need to be purchased from Porkrind Emporium. Luckily, the item only costs one coin, and there are four coins available for free on Island IV. Speaking to the town square NPC, who was likely inspired by classic cartoons for Cuphead, will give players three coins. A hidden path behind the shop also leads to another coin. After purchasing the Broken Relic charm, players can equip it, then speak to the climbers for clues.
Next to Porkrind Emporium, there are three climbers standing on podiums. Speaking to these climbers will reveal the tombstone puzzle solution, but the exact combination of graves varies in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course. For example, one of the climbers could say, “I am downright awesome!” This indicates that the grave in the bottom right corner should be interacted with. Players will need to determine the correct tombstones by speaking to each climber and using the directions in their dialogue. The tombstones should be interacted with by using the clue from the first place climber, then the second and third. If entered correctly, a portal will appear which leads to a secret boss fight.
How To Defeat The Secret Boss In Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course
When the portal appears, players can interact with it to enter a secret arena and get the chance to fight the Angel and Demon. There’s only one phase for this fight, but it has a unique mechanic that can be difficult to master. When the fight starts, players will be facing the Demon, and the Angel will be behind them. This will be the case throughout the fight, so every time players turn around, the Angel and Demon will switch. If the Demon shoots projectiles, players can turn around to switch the boss’s position with the Angel, then the attacks that were already launched will be ineffective. However, any projectiles shot by the player will also be ineffective against the Angel.
The mechanics featured in this difficult boss fight can take a few tries to get used to, but beating the Angel and Demon is reliant on knowing when to swap the two. Jumping around and moving sporadically can lead to a quick loss, so players will need to be strategic in their movements. Dodging every projectile, regardless of whether the Angel or Demon shoots it, also makes it easier to win. Doing so will ensure players avoid taking damage even if they accidentally face the other direction and the Angel’s harmless attacks become fireballs.
Along with projectiles, the Demon can shoot a vertical fire beam that is unavoidable unless players face the other way, forcing it to become an ineffective Angel attack. The lightning under the floating cloud will also deal damage, so players will need to avoid that as well. It may take several tries, but as long as players get used to the mechanics, it shouldn’t be too difficult to defeat this boss in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.
Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is available for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
