Strange World star Gabrielle Union explains why she wants to be in a Marvel or Star Wars project. Strange World follows the legendary Clade family as they face their newest and potentially most dangerous adventure yet, but they must confront their differences if they are going to complete this crucial mission. Union plays Meridian Clade, a former fighter pilot and the matriarch of the Clade family.
During the Strange World press conference Union said that being in a Disney Animated movie is a dream come true. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant Union revealed what other Disney franchises she dreams of joining. She hopes that her work in Strange World, The Inspection, and Truth Be Told could put her on Star Wars and Marvel’s radar for future projects.
Screen Rant: You said that being in a Disney animated film was a dream come true. Are there any other acting dreams you’d like to fulfill within the Disney lexicon?
Gabrielle Union: Oh my God, if you don’t say Marvel or Star Wars or live-action, you’d be lying. I want it all, and I have just never been even considered for any of those things. So, I don’t know. Maybe this is my year. I’m fifty; I feel thirty. My face is holding up, my back is holding up, and my butt’s still high so maybe. I can still kick some ass. So maybe [Strange World] and The Inspection and Truth Be Told that’s coming up will open me up to people seeing me in a completely different light, and I’ll get opportunities that I never had before.
Which Disney Franchise Would Suit Gabrielle Union Best?
Union’s desire to join these major franchises is no surprise, but it is shocking to learn she hasn’t been considered before. Union has shown her abilities across comedy, drama, thriller, and action genres. Strange World also demonstrates her abilities as a voice actor. Her experience across genres makes her an ideal candidate for a Star Wars, Marvel, or live-action Disney roles. A live-action Disney part is intriguing possibility for Union, especially if Strange World gets the live-action treatment in the future.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the perfect franchise for Union to step into, with characters across the multiverse and even the X-Men joining the MCU in the years to come. Union isn’t the only one from Strange World who hopes to join him as a Marvel Studios collaborator in the future. Strange World co-director Qui Nguyen revealed his own interest in Marvel specifically an animated Agents of Atlas project.
Star Wars is also be an ideal franchise for Union to join with numerous upcoming Disney Plus series in production and films in early development. Her ability to capture the humanity, comedy, and intensity of her characters, combined with her experience in action, suggests that she could fit into a more grounded series like Andor or a more fantastical adventure. While her experience in the pulpy action universe of Strange World could make her perfect for a friendly animated series like The Bad Batch. Hopefully, with Union achieving one of her dreams through Strange World, she’ll get a shot at the other larger Disney franchises.
