MAFS is popular with fans, but boasts a low success rate. Here are some fan favorite couples on MAFS who tragically divorced after the show.
There are several Married At First Sight couples who, despite rising as fan favorites on the show, have gone on to sadly divorce. The relationship experts featured on MAFS have arranged dozens of marriages since 2014, but only a few lucky ones continue to thrive in 2022. Although the overall success rate is low—with some seasons even having every couple divorcing—MAFS has continued growing in popularity with season 14 in Boston recently ending.
Although the MAFS couples seem happily in love when they agree to stay together on Decision Day, it’s not uncommon for things to permanently deteriorate once the cameras stop rolling. Jaclyn Methuen and Ryan Ranellone from MAFS season 2 filed for divorce just after Decision Day, for example. Virginia Coombs and Erik Lake from MAFS season 12 are another couple to cut things very short.
Some MAFS separations are sadder than others, as viewers grow attached to certain couples that they’re convinced are perfect together. It’s always unfortunate when couples fans like break up, especially when when viewers are kept in the dark afterwards. Here are some fan favorite MAFS marriages that have ended in tragic divorce.
Amelia Fatsi And Bennett Kirschner (MAFS Season 11)
Amelia and Bennett quickly became fan favorites when they met on MAFS season 11. Although their marriage started off shaky in New Orleans, Amelia and Bennett’s quirky personalities meshed well together. The duo rarely fought during their time on MAFS, despite COVID interrupting filming in early 2020. By the end of season 11, viewers were convinced that Amelia and Bennett would become the next successful long-term marriage, especially after they both agreed to stay married on Decision Day—and Bennett got Amelia’s initials tattooed. Despite Bennett’s permanent ink, Amelia and Bennett’s relationship met its end when they quietly filed for divorce in October 2021. Amelia and Bennett are still cordial and follow one another online, but fans were more than surprised when this fan favorite couple separated.
Cortney Hendrix And Jason Carrion (MAFS Season 1)
Cortney and Jason felt an obvious attraction towards one another when they met at the altar during MAFS season 1, and their relationship quickly continued to grow throughout the inaugural experiment. It seemed like the duo had several life goals in common, and fans were confident that Cortney and Jason were in it forever after they easily agreed to stay together on Decision Day. Fans of MAFS continued to follow Cortney and Jason’s marriage for five years and were devastated when they announced their separation in 2019. Although their paths no longer aligned, Cortney and Jason have since remarried, with Cortney now a mom.
Jaclyn Schwartzberg and Ryan Buckley (MAFS season 6)
Jaclyn and Ryan’s marriage started off strong when they met on MAFS season 6. Although the two argued more as Decision Day grew closer, this couple from Boston seemed to have better communication skills than Molly Duff and Jonathan Francetic, who later got engaged to then-expert Dr. Jessica Griffin. Although Jaclyn and Ryan agreed to stay together on Decision Day alongside Shawniece Jackson and Jephte Pierre, they sadly announced that they were divorcing in June 2018. Since then, Jaclyn has remarried, while Ryan has stayed single. While Married At First Sight season 14 fan favorite couple Noi Phommasak and Steve Moy are still married, it’s clear that MAFS relationships, no matter how liked by fans, can crumble at any point.
