Netflix seems to have the perfect Silo competitor that fans of one brilliant Stephen King movie must watch. The show in question premiered in 2025 and became somewhat of a sleeper hit after landing an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%. Its success has also prompted Netflix to renew it for a whole new season.
Silo season 2 was widely considered a relatively inferior installment compared to its predecessor. However, the Apple TV+ sci-fi show remains one of the most successful ongoing sci-fi shows. Apple TV+ has also renewed it for two more seasons, which will seemingly cover the remaining story beats from the original Silo book series.
While Silo continues to reign supreme, another Netflix sci-fi show has shown immense potential in 2025. Interestingly, the show also shares many story parallels with Silo, making it the Apple TV+ show’s perfect rival. A closer look at the Netflix show also reveals how it is reminiscent of an incredible Stephen King movie adaptation.
The Eternaut Is Netflix’s Response To Apple TV+’s Silo
Unlike Silo, The Eternaut focuses more on the chaos that ensues on Earth after a strange alien invasion. However, the two shows’ similarities lie in their early story setups. In its opening arc, Silo establishes that its main characters cannot leave their underground city because the atmosphere in the outside world is polluted.
The characters in The Eternaut face a similar challenge when alien forces wage a biological war on humans by making toxic snow rain on the planet. With what follows, both shows highlight how some humans start fighting among themselves, which exposes the fragility of social order.
The Eternaut eventually heads in a more supernatural direction and significantly drifts away from its early Silo parallels. Interestingly, however, like Silo, The Eternaut‘s narrative serves as a solid metaphor for authoritarian control and how fear is often weaponized to manipulate the masses. This makes the Netflix series a good recommendation for Silo fans.
The Eternaut Is The Perfect Show For Fans Of Stephen King’s The Mist
The Eternaut also seems reminiscent of Stephen King’s The Mist, which was adapted into a movie in 2007. The characters in The Mist experience the same sense of unrest and uncertainty as the ones in The Eternaut when a mysterious and seemingly deadly mist envelops their town.
While the real monsters lie outside, the humans trapped inside a supermarket grow increasingly paranoid and distrustful towards one another, just like the ones in The Eternaut. Similar to the Stephen King movie, The Eternaut also features terrifying giant insect-like creatures that brutally attack humans who dare to leave their homes.
In a review (via Twitter), Hideo Kojima praised Netflix’s The Eternaut by calling it “outstanding” and “very much in line with the great sci-fi classics of the 20th century.“
Although the Stephen King horror movie inclines more towards cosmic elements and explores humanity’s fear of the unknown, it shares many other fascinating narrative overlaps with The Eternaut. Owing to this, viewers who love the Stephen King story must check out the Netflix Silo rival.
