A new Elden Ring mod makes the trip through the Lands Between less lonely by letting players summon bosses and NPCs to serve as traveling companions.
The world of Elden Ring can be a brutal and lonely place, but a new mod allows players to summon NPCs like Ranni and Melina to keep them company as they journey to become the legendary Elden Lord. FromSoftware’s latest Dark Souls-style medieval RPG has been a blockbuster success since it was first released back in late February, already surpassing similar open-world titles like Horizon Forbidden West and Kirby and the Forgotten Land to become one of 2022’s best-selling games so far. Even high-profile celebrities like Elon Musk and WWE superstar Randy Orton have shared their custom Tarnished characters online, and unknown players have gained newfound fame by challenging Elden Ring’s many difficult bosses without any armor at all.
The quest to gather the lost fragments of the titular Elden Ring is a daunting one, but luckily players can summon a wide range of helpful spirits to assist them in battle and partner with other Tarnished online to fight enemies or challenge each other in PVP battles. Additionally, Elden Ring is filled with many memorable NPCs that populate the more civilized areas of the Lands Apart, like the ethereal witch Ranni and the kindly deathbed companion Fia. Many of these Elden Ring NPCs help the player by granting them special items and side quests, while others merely wait around to steal valuable runes from the Tarnished that fall in combat. In any case, few of these side characters venture outside of their set arenas within Elden Ring’s vast open-world sandbox, and players typically embark on their adventures alone.
A modder by the handle of Satoshi98 recently posted their latest Elden Ring mod, the appropriately dubbed “NPCs and Bosses Spirit Summons,” to Nexus Mods after they wished to travel the Lands Between like in The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. As described by VG247, Satoshi98’s mod remedies this by allowing players to summon supporting characters like Sellen, Ranni, and Blaidd the Half-Wolf to assist them in their travels, as well as dreaded Elden Ring bosses like Malenia the Blade of Miquella, Radagon, and even the infamously difficult Godskin Duo. NPCs like Millicent and Ranni usually don’t battle enemies in Elden Ring, so Satoshi98 took the liberty of giving them weapons and attacks – such as Ranni’s new Carian Regal Sceptre, which grants her no less than seven spells to help the Tarnished take down the many foes in their path.
Elden Ring has seen plenty of mods that allow players to summon the game’s most notorious bosses as helpful Spirits, ranging from a living boulder to the endgame boss Godfrey the First Elden Lord. There is even a mod that lets players call upon the avatar of famed Elden Ring player Let Me Solo Her, a fan who has earned a legendary reputation for defeating the previously mentioned Malenia no less than 1,000 times wearing nothing more than a ceramic pot helmet and a loincloth.
Satoshi98’s new Elden Ring “NPCs and Bosses Spirit Summons” mod makes the journey through the perilous Lands Between a little less lonely by allowing players to be accompanied by memorable NPCs like Millicent and Sellen, who in turn can lend some unlikely fighting prowess to the Tarnished’s quest to become the Elden Lord. It’s just another example of Elden Ring fans enhancing FromSoftware’s already expansive smash hit with creative mods and character builds.
