A new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness deleted scene arrives showing new Stephen and Christine footage as a flashback interview.
Stephen and Christine are a dynamic duo in a new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness deleted scene. The Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel acted as a continuation of the story threads put forth in WandaVision, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Loki season 1. The film centered on Benedict Cumberbatch’s titular sorcerer as he tries to protect multiverse-traveling teenager America Chavez from Wanda Maximoff, who has become corrupted by the Darkhold, while also learning of the intricacies of other realities, including the existence of the Illuminati.
Alongside Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness marked the MCU returns of Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg and Rachel McAdams. The film also marked the MCU debuts of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, Patrick Stewart as a variant of Professor Charles Xavier and John Krasinski as Reed Richards, the latter of whom served on the Illuminati alongside Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter, Lashana Lynch’s Captain Marvel and Anson Mount’s Black Bolt. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, helmed by Sam Raimi, was met with generally positive reviews from critics upon its May release and was a box office smash, grossing over $943 million to become the highest-grossing film of 2022 thus far.
With just days remaining until its Disney+ arrival, IGN has revealed a new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness deleted scene. The video features new Stephen and Christine footage as the two sit down for an interview to discuss the Strange Palmer Method, a surgical technique the two crafted to allow paralyzed patients tow walk again. Check out the deleted scene below:
Though the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness deleted scene seems minimal in its importance, there are a few interesting details to take from the scene. The Palmer-Strange technique was discussed in the first Doctor Strange movie as a seeming throwaway joke between Stephen and Christine, with the former showing his arrogance by suggesting his last name be first on the technique rather than the reverse. Given Stephen’s car accident occurred shortly after this conversation in the first film, it seems doubtful the technique would actually come to be in Earth-616, let alone see Christine and Stephen sit down for an interview to discuss it.
While the main universe Strange continues to show some signs of arrogance in Earth-616, the behavior of Stephen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also further indicates the interview is likely set on Earth-838, where the Illuminati are based. Unlike the first film, Christine and Stephen’s relationship ultimately proved to be a key factor in the story for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as he worked hard to convince the alternate version of the character of his love for her and that he would rise above the faults of the Earth-838 version of Strange. Audiences can revisit Stephen and Christine’s time together in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as it hits Disney+ on Wednesday.
