Danielle Deadwyler will star in Blumhouse thriller The Woman in the Yard from Black Adam directors Jaume Collet-Serra.
The film, which Deadwyler will also executive produce, has been dated for Jan. 10, 2025 and will be released via Universal, where the horror house has its longtime deal. In a twinned move, Universal announced it was pushing M3GAN 2.0 from Jan. 17 , and moving it to May 16, 2025.
The Woman in the Yard was written by written by Sam Stefanak, with a logline that is being kept under wraps. Jason Blum and Stephanie Allain are producers on the film. Along with Deadwyler, Collet-Serra, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are executive producers.
Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are running point for Blumhouse.
The Woman in the Yard will see Collet-Serra and Deadwyler reunite after working together on in the Netflix thriller Carry On. “I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler,” said Jason Blum.
Deadwyler, repped by Paradigm, Play Management, and Ziffren Brittenham, earned major awards recognitions for her performance in last year’s feature Till. Her upcoming credits include the Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson from director Denzel Washington, where she stars opposite John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, and A24’s I Saw the TV Glow, currently in the middle of its festival run.
Collet-Serra’s credits include the family film Jungle Cruise, which earned $220 million globally, but his background is in the horror-thriller space with credits like The Shallows, House of Wax, and The Orphan. He is represented by LBI Entertainment and Yorn Levine.
Stefanak is represented by Paradigm, Epicenter and Jackoway Austen.
