You probably missed this excellent stealth game when it was first released in 2022, but now that it’s on Game Pass, you have no excuse. Microsoft’s online gaming and game library service just keeps growing. It seems like there’s something new on Game Pass every day, whether it’s a day-one release, a classic’s triumphant return, or a great game you somehow missed when it first came out.
We’re going to take a look at one of those great games today. Although it was released in 2022 to rave reviews, and was nominated in several categories at The Game Awards that year, it never really received the widespread player adoption it deserves. Now that it’s on Game Pass, though, it has a chance at a second life.
A Plague Tale: Requiem Is Free With Xbox Game Pass
How To Play
A Plague Tale: Requiem is free with your Game Pass subscription, which makes right now the perfect time to try it out. It’s available with both the Standard and Ultimate tiers on Xbox Series X/S, and on PC with any subscription package.
Ultimate subscribers can also play A Plague Tale: Requiem via cloud streaming anywhere the Xbox app is available.
Released in 2022, A Plague Tale: Requiem is the sequel to 2019’s A Plague Tale: Innocence. Unfortunately, the first game isn’t available on Game Pass at the moment, but don’t let that deter you: the sequel is far superior, and stands well enough on its own.
Missed A Plague Tale: Requiem In 2022? It’s Worth Playing
Why You Should Play It
If you never got around to playing A Plague Tale: Requiem when it was first released, it being on Game Pass is the perfect excuse to play it now. The sequel was critically acclaimed, with an 82 aggregate score on Metacritic, including a 9/10 review by Screen Rant.
Reviewer Rob Gordon praised Requiem for its innovation on the first game, calling it “a fantastic game, expanding its framework in the right places through intricate themes and horror elements.” Yet A Plague Tale: Requiem‘s expanded options for combat and stealth, along with its evocative visuals, give it an extra dose of originality.
It’s a brilliant work of folk-body horror, with one foot firmly in its historical context, and the other in the metaphysical. You play as Amicia as she and her younger brother Hugo flee the Inquisition in an effort to find a cure for Hugo’s rare disease. Along the way, they find themselves embroiled in a supernatural horror, as they flee impossibly large swarms of rats and unflinchingly cruel humans.
At its core, A Plague Tale is a stealth game series: you’ll sneak past unsuspecting enemies, using a variety of gadgets and your environment to get the upper hand. But it also occasionally descends into moments of horror, or big action set pieces that break up the monotony – if not the oppressive atmosphere. The story is dark and moody, and the visuals and score match to a T.
So, if you’re looking for your next big obsession, and you have the appropriate subscription, then A Plague Tale: Requiem is worth your time. We’re not anticipating it leaving Game Pass any time soon, but make sure to check it out while it’s still free with your subscription.
