Jaskier has become one of the most popular characters in Netflix’s The Witcher, and for those who won’t continue watching the series after season 3, here’s what happens to the charismatic bard. Although Netflix’s The Witcher is one of the platform’s most popular TV shows, it has also become one of the most controversial ones. The Witcher has made some big changes to the books, especially in season 2, which earned the series a lot of criticism, and to make it all more concerning, Henry Cavill exited the series. The Witcher season 3 is Henry Cavill’s last as Geralt of Rivia, which is why the season was treated as an event, but it’s also why many viewers have expressed disinterest in the future of the series.
After The Witcher season 2 established that different groups across the Continent want to capture Ciri, season 3 finally saw Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer together as they did their best to hide and stay safe. Jaskier was also given a bigger role in The Witcher season 3, as he also helped his new family while half the Continent went after them. Season 3 won’t be the end of Jaskier’s story, and he will surely be by Liam Hemsworth’s Geralt of Rivia’s side in The Witcher season 4, but for those not sticking around, here’s what happens to Jaskier after season 3 according to the books.
9 Jaskier Joins Geralt’s Search For Ciri After The Thanedd Coup
The Thanedd Coup has major repercussions in the universe of The Witcher. While Ciri flees and takes refuge at the Tower of Gulls, Geralt confronts Vilgefortz. The mage once more asks Geralt to join his side, but the witcher refuses and a battle ensues. Unfortunately, Vilgefortz manages to defeat Geralt and leaves him severely wounded. Geralt is taken to the forest of Brokilon to recover under the care of the dryads, and that’s where Jaskier reunites with his friend. Jaskier has bad news to share with Geralt, telling him that Aedirn, Rivia, and Lyria fell to Nilfgardian invaders. King Foltest of Temeria made a pact with the White Flame, and Francesca Findabair was made the client queen of Dol Blathanna.
8 Jaskier & Geralt Come Across Cahir (& He Joins Their Group)
While recovering in Brokilon, Geralt and Jaskier are introduced to Milva, an archer and hunter who ranges outside the forest and guides scattered bands of Scoia’tael to hide in Brokilon. Although she initially doesn’t like Geralt, she decides to follow the witcher and the bard as they leave the forest and make their way to Nilfgaard in hopes of finding Ciri before any of their enemies do. However, their journey isn’t easy, and they come across none other than Cahir, who shadows Jaskier, Geralt, and Milva.
Cahir is captured by hawkers and Geralt saves him, but as he doesn’t want anything with him, he leaves him. However, Cahir continues shadowing the group and ends up joining them thanks to Milva’s intervention. The group at this point is formed by a witcher, a bard, an archer, and a former Nilfgaardian soldier.
7 Jaskier & Geralt Form A New Group
Now joined by Cahir, Jaskier and Geralt, along with Milva, continue their journey to Nilfgaard, and they add more allies to their group. First, they come across Regis, a vampire with invaluable medical skills who befriends Geralt, and they all end up in the Battle for the Bridge on the Yaruga, where they are pivotal in Queen Meve’s victory (an event that leads to Geralt being knighted and finally earning the title “of Rivia”). After this, the group partners with Angoulême, the illegitimate daughter of a Cintran noblewoman who Geralt at first mistakes for Ciri, and who ended up forming a gang with a group of orphans before joining a criminal group.
6 Jaskier & Geralt Are Being Haunted By Nightingale’s Group
After saving Queen Meve, Geralt seeks a group of druids he believes can help them locate Ciri, but on their way there, Geralt, Jaskier, and the rest learn that a bounty has been placed on their heads by a half-elf and a group of criminals led by Nightingale. Homer Straggen, best known as Nightingale, is the cruel leader of the Nightingale gang, who are contracted by Schirrú to kill Geralt. With the help of Angoulême, a former member of the Nightingale gang, Jaskier, Geralt, and the rest ambush the gang and discover who hired them. The group later comes across Schirrú and a fight ensues in which Cahir is injured, while Jaskier and the rest (minus Geralt, who stays with Cahir) arrive at Toussaint.
5 Jaskier Stays Behind As Geralt & Company Rescue Ciri
While in Toussaint, Jaskier falls in love with Duchess Anna Henrietta, whose husband is having an affair of his own somewhere else. Geralt later overhears a meeting between Skellen and Nilfgaardian nobles plotting to overthrow the White Flame, and one of them mentions not only Vilgefortz’s location but also that he has Yennefer as his victim-prisoner. Geralt and the group leave to rescue Ciri and Yennefer, but Jaskier chooses to stay in Toussaint.
4 Jaskier Is Almost Executed in Toussaint
Jaskier continues his affair with the Duchess of Toussaint while Geralt rescues Ciri and Yennefer, but things get complicated for the bard as the Duke learns of his wife’s affair. The Duke orders the capture of Jaskier with the purpose of tearing out his heart, cooking it, and making the Duchess eat it in front of the court. Luckily for Jaskier, following the rescue of Ciri, Yennefer, Vilgefortz’s death, and being captured and almost killed by the White Flame, Geralt returns to Toussaint with his family and saves Jaskier from being executed.
3 Jaskier & Geralt Travel To Rivia
The family doesn’t stay together for long after that, as Yennefer and Ciri are summoned by the Lodge of Sorceresses and Jaskier and Geralt travel to Rivia. Unfortunately, this is the final trip of Jaskier and Geralt together, as once in Rivia, a riot and pogrom erupt with humans killing non-humans. Geralt saves his dwarven friends and fights, but he’s impaled. Geralt manages to save many and kill various attackers, but he’s badly injured and on the verge of death. Ciri, Yennefer, and Triss Merigold arrive and Yennefer uses all of her magic to revive Geralt but loses consciousness.
2 Jaskier Says Goodbye To Geralt, Yennefer, & Ciri
After Yennefer passes out, Ihuarraquax, a unicorn and Ciri’s friend, appears and channels her powers through Ciri in order to heal Geralt and Yennefer. Ihuarraquax points at a boat, leading Ciri to put Geralt and Yennefer’s bodies in it and leave. Jaskier, Triss, and the surviving dwarves say their goodbyes, and Ciri takes off on the boat with her parents, disappearing in the fog.
1 Jaskier’s Fate Is Left Unknown By Ciri
The events of the final The Witcher novel, The Lady of the Lake, are told by Ciri. Ciri tells her story and those of Geralt and Yennefer to Sir Galahad, and the ending she gives to her parents is quite ambiguous. Ciri tells the knight that she could claim that the story ends with Geralt and Yennefer waking up in an unknown location and that they eventually get married, but she cries while saying this. There’s no mention of what happens to Jaskier, so in a way, his ending is also left to the imagination of readers.
