Fans of The Vampire Diaries have just said goodbye to Legacies, but viewers are still reflecting on the series finale of TVD. In “I Was Feeling Epic,” Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore are married, and after Elena dies after a happy human existence, she sees her mom and dad again. It’s sweet that the couple ends up together and it’s moving that the Salvatore brothers have worked through their problems and are close again in death. But fans have some thoughts about the way that major storylines were wrapped up.
Viewers are still upset that Enzo St. John dies, leaving Bonnie Bennett heartbroken, and they don’t love how Katherine Pierce’s story is concluded, either. Redditors are sharing the ways that they wish that The Vampire Diaries had ended.
10 Elena Should Be Connected To Damon Instead Of Bonnie
Bonnie and Elena’s The Vampire Diaries friendship is so strong that they are even connected in death. In the season 6 finale, Kai makes sure that the characters are bonded in a way that they never anticipated, and Elena goes into a coma. Elena will only wake when Bonnie passes away.
Redditor LadyLoreilia thinks that this could be different, writing that it would be great if the show had “Elena waking up cause her life was tied to Damon’s, not Bonnie.” This would still make sense with the narrative and allow Damon and Elena to end up together.
9 Stefan And Damon Die At The Same Time
Stefan dies before Damon, as he doesn’t have The Cure, and the brothers realize that no matter what, they will always be together. Stefan ensures that Katherine doesn’t get out of hell and loses his life in the process. Damon and Stefan see each other again in the afterlife and know that their bond is still there, which is heartfelt and sweet to see.
Redditor LadyLoreilia would love to see a different conclusion and thinks it would be great if TVD had “Damon and Stefan dying together.” While this would complicate matters with Damon and Elena’s romance, it would still seem logical.
8 Elena And Jeremy Should See Each Other Again
Elena and Jeremy have experienced more loss than most siblings, and when the show opens, they are mourning their parents who passed away in a car crash. While fans learn that Jeremy has a happy ending as he teaches at the Salvatore Boarding School, viewers wanted more moving moments between Jeremy and his sister.
Redditor raven_darkseid wrote, “Jeremy teaching at the school is fine, but I would have rather seen a reunion between him and Elena.” It would definitely be fitting if the siblings saw each other one more time.
7 Fans Should See Damon And Elena’s Future Relationship
There are many TVD episodes about Damon and Elena, and yet when fans learn that they get married and have a joyful future together, viewers don’t get many details at all.
Redditor Llewellyn26 would love to see a “flash forward of them having kids, Damon owning the Mystic Grill and having a drink with Alaric, flashes of Bonnie and Enzo around the world.” The fan continued, “I hate that they’re pretty much leaving a 50 year gap in the ending.”
6 Katherine Shouldn’t Rule Hell
The Vampire Diaries ends with Katherine ruling hell, which is definitely memorable since she has spent so long tormenting Elena and manipulating the Salvatore Brothers, not to mention hurting many other people.
Redditor scarsouvenir doesn’t like this conclusion and wrote, “I’d also want a different storyline with Katherine. Her being the Queen of Hell is just so absurd to me, honestly.” Redditor raven_darkseid agreed that the plotline is “far too rushed and didn’t contain enough lore to make it interesting.”
5 Elena Is Human But Without Damon
The biggest question about the end of this popular series is whether Elena should be human again, and the twist that she does become human but marries Damon is a big one. Thanks to the show’s epic love triangle, there was a strong possibility that Elena and Stefan would be together instead.

Redditor luvprue1 thinks that it would be interesting if Elena was human but didn’t marry Damon. The fan wrote that the character could “decide to bow out of Elena’s life and allow her to live a human life without vampires.” Damon would then make sure that Elena doesn’t remember knowing him at all.
4 Katherine Returns But Could Stay Evil
Katherine survives a lot on TVD and while it makes sense that she would end up in a terrible place at the end of the series, fans think that this complex character deserves something else. A fan posted that Katherine could return and she could be good or evil, but either way, she would still be part of the main action.
Redditor Miss_Messy_In_Ayland would love to see “Katherine comes back to life, without having her entire character development thrown out the window.” The fan suggested, “She eventually goes back to being the old Katherine, on the road (or not) to redemption.”
3 Caroline And Alaric Should Raise Their Kids
In season 7, it’s surprising when Caroline Forbes is pregnant with Alaric Saltzman’s twins, and she gives birth to Lizzie and Josie. While it’s sweet that Caroline becomes fond of them and invested in their lives, it’s still a pretty intense and out there plotline.
Redditor PrivateSpeaker thinks that Caroline and Alaric could be together, looking after their daughters. The fan wrote, “She would give birth at the end of the finale and it would be implied that she and Alaric raise the babies together.”
2 Tyler Shouldn’t Die
Some fans love Caroline and Tyler Lockwood’s relationship as some TVD fans dislike Caroline and Stefan’s relationship. The viewers who ship Caroline and Tyler hate that Tyler dies.
Redditor PrivateSpeaker posted that a great alternative conclusion for the show would be “Tyler would be alive and well.” Damon kills Tyler in the season 8 episode “You Decided I Was Worth Saving” and removes his throat, which is definitely a dark way to go.
1 Katherine Is Human
While fans don’t like that Katherine is in charge of hell, one viewer thinks that the show could go in a totally different direction with this character’s conclusion.
Redditor Miss-Messy-In-Ayland wrote that it would be great if “Katherine comes back as a human. She actually gets some redemption, deciding to betray Cade and give Bonnie crucial intel for her spells.”
