Erica Dawn Lyle, Vice Cooler, and Kim Gordon have collaborated on a new track. It’s titled “Debt Collector” and it’s the second cut from a forthcoming compilation benefiting the Northeast Farmers of Color Land Trust. Land Trust: Benefit For NEFOC is out June 3. Check out “Debt Collector” below.
“Debt Collector” follows Land Trust’s “Mirrorball,” which Lyle wrote with her Bikini Kill bandmate Kathleen Hanna. Cooler, the current drummer for the Raincoats, directed the new “Debt Collector” music video, juxtaposing shots of new condo developments with those of houses with tenants being evicted. Gordon shared her perspective on the song in a brief statement. “I’m a bit obsessed with what’s happening with these big financial corporations like Blackrock and Blackstone buying up houses, becoming landlords,” she wrote. “They pay far beyond a house’s value, putting home ownership even out of the range of the middle class—much less working class.”
Gordon has previously addressed her feelings about houses not being homes on “Air BnB” from her 2019 solo album No Home Record. Land Trust also features contributions from Alice Bag, Palberta, the Linda Lindas, Katie Alice Greer, and more.
