Ahsoka stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Ivanna Sakhno explain the connection between Sabine Wren and Shin Hati that’s been driving Star Wars fans wild. Premiering this past summer, the latest Disney Plus Star Wars show sees Rosario Dawson reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano after the positive reception to her Mandalorian season 2 appearance. Joining Dawson’s titular Jedi are a number of newcomers to the franchise, including Bordizzo as Sabine and Sakhno as Shin, two characters on opposing sides of the Force whose compelling rivalry has led to a new ship, dubbed “WolfWren.”
Now, during a recent appearance at Los Angeles Comic Con 2023, as shared in a video by See Rad on YouTube, Bordizzo and Sakhno dive into just what makes the Sabine and Shin dynamic in Ahsoka so interesting.
As is the case with many cases of fan shipping, the two actors reveal that it may not have been an intentional part of the writing process for the show, but they both admit that there’s an undeniable connection between their two characters. Check out Bordizzo and Sakhno’s full comments below:
Natasha Liu Bordizzo – “So much left unsaid here. I think Shin and Sabine, as the fans have reacted to the – shall I call it chemistry? – it’s a good word. We felt these characters have this crazy magnetic connection to each other, and sometimes not in the best way, but it was really special and we felt it on set and it was just something that Dave… I don’t think he’s even aware of what he’s created.”
Ivanna Sakhno: “We would be like, ‘Dave, do you see what you’re writing?’ And he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?'”
Natasha: “I think they’re such great opponents for so many reasons, and it’s interesting because it isn’t that feeling of, like, good versus evil or anything predictable like that. Sabine’s got some darkness in her, and Shin has some other interesting elements.”
Ivanna “I think there’s a lot for them to learn from one another, truly, it’s a good combo.”
Could Sabine & Shin Happen In Ahsoka Season 2?
It’s worth noting that, as of this writing, Ahsoka season 2 has not yet been confirmed. Although Disney hasn’t yet made anything official regarding the continuation of the show, Dawson recently revealed that creator Dave Filoni, who was recently promoted to chief creative officer at Lucasfilm, is working on outlines for the next batch of episodes.
If season 2 does get the green light, the Ahsoka season 1 ending certainly leaves the door open for further exploration of Sabine and Shin’s relationship. The finale ends with Ahsoka, Sabine, Huyang (David Tennant), Shin, and Baylon (Ray Stevenson) all stranded on Peridea, with Shin having taken up with a group of raiders. Bordizzo and Sakhno’s characters may be separated for the time being, but their rivalry will undoubtedly bring them back together for a rematch.
When an inevitable rematch does occur, it’s possible that Shin’s hard exterior will further crack. Ahsoka has already planted some seeds that a Shin redemption arc could be on the horizon, and Star Wars has never shied away from these kinds of arcs in the past. If Shin can be redeemed, the door would really open for something romantic to develop with Sabine. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Sabine and Shin, but a fulfillment of the WolfWren ship doesn’t seem like it’s off the table.
