The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark shares her opinion on whether Galadriel felt tempted by Sauron or not. In the series, Galadriel teams up with Halbrand, a human man who is seemingly the rightful ruler of the Southlands. However, The Rings of Power season 1 finale reveals Halbrand is actually the Dark Lord Sauron in disguise, the admission leading him to try and sway Galadriel over to his side.
Speaking with Collider, Clark weighs in on if Galadriel was tempted by Sauron in The Rings of Power season 1. She says that, because of the way Galadriel perceives the situation, it was important to play up some ambiguity with her feelings. Check out what Clark says below:
I don’t know. I kind of want to keep it ambiguous, as well, but I think the thing with Galadriel is that she knows that should she go to the dark side things will be catastrophic. I’ve been thinking a lot about what the gift of foresight would actually feel like, and I’m like, ‘Is it just like increased anxiety in a way?’ Because you have all these ideas of what could be, what could be, what could be, and I think one of her big ‘what could be’s’ is like, ‘What if I’m bad?’ But I don’t know. I mean, they definitely vibe because they’re very powerful, but I’m not sure.
What’s Next For Galadriel & Sauron In The Rings Of Power Season 2?
The end of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 saw Sauron leave Eregion, making his way to the Southlands. While Elrond seemingly pieced together that Halbrand tricked Celebrimbor into making the first three Rings of Power for nefarious purposes, the Rings were forged before he could reveal the truth. Galadriel also seems to be keeping the truth of Halbrand’s identity as Sauron close to her chest, encouraging Celebrimbor to make the third Ring to ensure balance.
Given his true identity as Sauron, it seems Halbrand and Galadriel will be at odds with one another when The Rings of Power season 2 airs. Despite feeling some possible temptation from Sauron’s offer to become his Dark Queen, Galadriel’s denial of the Dark Lord shows she can’t be so easily swayed. However, that doesn’t mean Sauron still won’t try to trick her into helping him gain the power he’s destined to obtain in Middle-earth’s Second Age.
Since J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories say a disguised Sauron helped forge the Rings of Power, with 17 left to forge, he will likely return to Eregion using a new form. It’s unclear if Galadriel will recognize him in a new form, though her knowledge about Halbrand may influence her not to trust him, even in a disguise she’s not quite sure is Sauron. No matter what Sauron’s next moves are, though, his conflict with Galadriel following her rejection will no doubt influence The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power going forward.
