Jake Gyllenhaal responds to his Road House remake muscles going viral. The original 1989 action film followed bouncer James Dalton (Patrick Swayze), who was hired to clean up the Double Deuce, a small but rowdy club in Missouri. The violent fight scenes – including Dalton ripping another man’s throat out – have been praised over the years, despite general reactions to Road House being mixed. A reboot, starring Gyllenhaal, was confirmed in 2022, and since then, there have been several filming snippets of what the actor will look like. Gyllenhaal’s Road House transformation has been heavily discussed, as videos revealing his muscles gained attention online.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actor was informed about the “Jacked Gyllenhaal” nickname and responded to the idea of his appearance going viral, while also praising the production. Read Gyllenhaal’s comments regarding Road House below:
“That’s a wonderful nickname. It’s been an incredible experience and it is [amazing] working with actual real fighters, working with the UFC, reimagining a classic. There’s been a lot of the physical [work].“
Everything We Know About The Road House Remake
The Road House remake is directed by Doug Liman, whose other action films include The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow. Though original writer David Lee Henry was involved with putting the story together, it is expected to be different, as evidenced by some of the early videos of Gyllenhaal. The reboot will follow Elwood Dalton (Gyllenhaal), a former UFC fighter who takes a job in the Florida Keys.
In addition to Gyllenhaal, the Road House cast includes Connor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Beau Knapp, and Jay Hieron. There is not much information surrounding their roles, but based on the name of Gyllenhaal’s character, there is speculation if he will be related to Swayze’s James Dalton in any way. This will not be the actor’s first time tackling fight sequences, as he previously starred in Southpaw, where he played a boxer.
While there is currently no release date, Gyllenhaal revealed in November that filming for Road House had wrapped. As anticipation surrounding the remake builds, it will be interesting to see how similar the movie ends up being to the original and if there are any references. Gyllenhaal’s comments suggest he enjoyed the Road House production process, and his viral transformation has already brought some anticipation for it.
