Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Love Is Blind season 4 episodes 6-8.
Love Is Blind season 4 is already filled with messy romances and love triangles, which has left the future of engaged couple Kwame Appiah and Chelsea Griffin uncertain. Kwame originally fell for contestant Micah Lussier, and even asked if he could break the show protocol by proposing to her on the sixth day of the Netflix love experiment. However, Micah ended up leaving Kwame for Paul Peden, which broke his heart. Kwame then bounced back with the kind-hearted Chelsea, though their relationship has showed signs of cracking throughout the first half of the season.
Kwame and Chelsea were the fourth Love Is Blind couple to get engaged in the pods during season 4. Kwame was left in tears when Micah ended things with him, though this allowed him to strengthen his connection with Chelsea, who liked him from the start. “I’ve never had somebody so f****** into me,” Kwame admitted about Chelsea. He developed stronger feelings for Chelsea, and leading up to his proposal, he played the guitar for her, “I feel like our love story was the most beauty slow dance. It was secure and soft and healthy and loving,” a smitten Chelsea declared to Kwame. However, the couple has some issues.
3 Love Is Blind’s Kwame’s Mother Doesn’t Approve Of Him Marrying Chelsea
When Kwame met Chelsea’s father on Love Is Blind season 4 episode 7, everything went well. “Life’s too short,” Chelsea’s sweet father declared. He then told the couple he was, “very happy” for them, and said that they, “absolutely” had his blessing. Unfortunately, the duo failed to get the same response from Kwame’s mother, when he phoned her to tell her about their wedding plans later in the episode. His conversation with his mother was only partially shown, but it was safe to say that it did not go well. Kwame’s religious mother was not happy about his participation in the show, and didn’t support his plans to marry Chelsea.
Currently, it isn’t clear how much Kwame’s mother’s lack of support will affect his decision to say yes at the altar. However, it is likely going to significantly impact Kwame’s mindset in the future. Kwame made it clear that he values his mother’s opinion, and respects her greatly. Unfortunately for the couple, Kwame’s mother appears to want nothing to do with the show. If she doesn’t change her opinion, and refuses to bless his marriage with Chelsea, it is unclear if Kwame will be able to say yes. However, there is always the slim chance that Chelsea will understand Kwame wanting to wait for his mother’s approval.
2 Love Is Blind’s Kwame & Chelsea Want Different Things For The Future
One thing that Love Is Blind’s Kwame and Chelsea have is chemistry, which was obvious during their Mexico trip, and apparent in their interactions. The two are very affectionate with one another. However, these positives might not be enough to save their relationship. Chelsea and Kwame discussed their future in episode 6, including having children. This led to Kwame admitting that he wants to travel with his wife for some years, while 31-year-old Chelsea appeared eager to start a family sooner rather than later. Her dream has always been to have a huge family. “Like do you want to settle down?” a concerned Chelsea asked Kwame.
While Kwame reassured Chelsea that he wants a settled future with her, it was clear that the discussion was at least a little uncomfortable for him, and that they might be on different pages. Meanwhile, Chelsea made it clear that since her pediatric speech language pathology job is in Seattle, while sales development manager Kwame works from home, he has to leave his beloved Portland for her. “If we’re being honest baby the compromise coming from this side is pretty big,” Kwame admitted. He later told Tiffany Pennywell during Chelsea’s party in episode 8 that their biggest issue is their lifestyle difference, as Chelsea wants a lot of change from Kwame.
1 Kwame Flirted With Micah On Love Is Blind Season 4
One major reason why Kwame and Chelsea might not work out is because he was ready to propose to Micah just days before asking Chelsea to be his wife. Kwame was smitten with Micah even after she left him for Paul, and flirted with her in Mexico while Chelsea was present. “She’s really beautiful… I’m attracted to her… I’m sorry,” he said to the cameras about Micah. Though he told Chelsea he only wanted to be with her, he previously called Micah his soulmate before she dumped him. “Everything I want in a woman is there, is in Micah,” Kwame confessed to his fellow male contestants during the pod stage.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, the sparks between Micah and Kwame still seemed fresh at Chelsea’s birthday party. “There’s so much electricity,” Micah confessed about their connection, despite being with Paul. “I care about you, I think about you, I worry about you,” she told Kwame. Micah also confessed to being, “very unsure” about whether she made the right choice by picking Paul over Kwame, when Kwame asked her. She then asked Kwame if he was questioning things. “Micah has a special place in my heart,” Kwame declared. The door to reconciliation between Micah and Kwame certainly appeared to be left open.
Overall, it is unclear if Kwame and Chelsea will be able to say, “I do” after just four weeks. Currently, only four Love Is Blind couples are still together from the first three seasons of the love experiment show. While it’s clear that Kwame and Chelsea share real feelings for each other, it might not be enough to save their relationship. Kwame’s reluctant to change his whole life for someone, while his lingering feelings for Micah may complicate things. On the other hand, Chelsea is one Love Is Blind cast member who appears entirely sure that she wants to marry her partner, despite any potential red flags.
