Are you thinking about starting up your own blog? Running a blog is a great hobby for a lot of people and a place where they can share their thoughts and feelings. Some people choose to blog full time – as you can generate a good income from one, once it’s established. Or they run their blog as a pastime activity.
Starting up a blog isn’t as difficult as you may have initially imagined. To start with you need to decide on how you are going to build your website and then start writing some articles for it. If you are unsure of what to write about, choose something you are passionate about – this way you are motivated to continue writing in the long run. If it’s not something you can say you are truly passionate about, you will soon lose interest in writing and not be able to sustain the weekly blog posts.
Blogs can be based on anything, from marketing and finances magazines to blogs on living a healthy lifestyle or fashion. The possibilities are endless. To help you with starting up your own blog, we have put together three different tips.
High-quality images matter
Do not set yourself up to fail and use low-quality images. Images matter and can add a completely new dynamic to your article. They support what you are writing about and help enhance the reader’s experience – plus Google will rank your website better if you use good quality images. You can get good quality images from a number of places, one of them being premium stock photos, or contact the company you are writing about and ask them if they have any images that you can use. When using these images, make sure they are sized the correct way and work on mobile too. Remember, your readers will be viewing your content from a number of devices so the images need to be suitable for most platforms.
Getting your website created
In today’s world, having a website created has never been easier – especially a blog as it requires less upkeep and coding. There are many website builders out there that you can use to create your website. WordPress is used a lot and so is Wix or Squarespace, all three of these have builders and templates included so that you can do it yourself. If you are not tech savvy enough to use one of these builders, you can always employ a freelancer or an agency to build a website for you. Depending on your budget and how serious you are with becoming a blogger, using a freelancer will often be considerably cheaper. Plus, most freelancers can start working on your new blog straightaway, whereas agencies tend to have a longer wait time.
Write about a subject you are interested in
When starting a blog, it can take time for you to bring viewers in. For some blogs, it takes many months until they hit their first 1000 views a month. For this reason alone, it’s important to stick to your article writing and be persistent and consistent with publishing. In order to stay consistent, write about the subjects you are interested in. If you are not passionate about what you are writing about it can be hard to motivate yourself to publish each week. And without consistency, it can be hard to grow a readership base.
Social media is important
Alongside your blog, you want to make sure you have social media channels. Social media channels are great for sharing your latest news – like when you publish a new blog post – bringing in new readers and showing companies that you are a legit business. There are many social media channels out there, so instead of trying to grow them all, start with one or two and then add the others at a later date. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Pinterest are the five popular ones at the moment as well as Youtube if you are going to produce regular videos alongside your articles. When creating your social media channels, don’t publish anything, instead, try and create a social media calendar that is consistent and carries a theme with it.
