90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? premiered this weekend, and though not all of the couples were featured in episode 1, viewers saw enough to get an idea about which will be the cringiest to watch in season 7. Despite being one of the least-liked spin-offs in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, Happily Ever After? has returned, and fans are already exhausted. The first episode included the beginning of several seemingly-staged storylines, and there’s already been a lot of negative feedback from fans on social media.
The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has a number of likable couples who viewers want to root for—there were even a few featured in the recently-concluded 90 Day Fiancé season 9. But TLC appears to have little concern for bringing back cast members fans want to see, and rather continues casting stars who garner the most controversy. Happily Ever After? season 7 features the likes of Big Ed Brown, Angela Deem, Elizabeth Potthast, and more, who have been slammed for being boring, predictable, and even problematic.
To the surprise of no one, Happily Ever After? season 7 is off to a bad start, in the eyes of viewers, who have taken to social media in droves to voice their complaints. Many feel that the new season is already too cringey and irritating to watch. But some couples are said to be worse than others, and there are cast members featured this season who fans don’t have trouble watching—at least compared to the others.
Jovi Dufren & Yara Zaya
Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufren may turn out to be the most watchable couple this season. The couple’s drama in episode 1 centered around Yara’s new friends and the tensions between Yara and Jovi due to the new mom’s desire to get out of the house. However, their drama has a scripted feel to it, because fans who follow Jovi and Yara on Instagram have seen a much different side to them over the past several months. Because their relationship actually seems to be in a pretty good place off-screen, there’s not much that’s cringey about their on-screen storyline.
Shaeeda Sween & Bilal Hazziez
Though viewers aren’t eager to see 90 Day Fiancé season 9 couple Bilal Hazziez and Shaeeda Sween’s storyline continue on Happily Ever After?, they are a fairly innocuous pair compared to their castmates. Fans find the couple frustrating, but not so much in a second-hand embarrassment sort of way. Their journey on Happily Ever After? is likely to get criticized on social media, though they’re not going to be as tough to watch as some of their other castmates.
Jenny Slatten & Sumit Singh
There’s always something inherently cringey about Sumit Singh and Jenny Slatten’s storyline, as their age gap and combined awkwardness have led to a lot of drama in the past. However, the couple are in a relatively good place in their relationship after finally getting married on the last season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way. In Happily Ever After? episode 1, Jenny and Sumit had another tense sit-down with Sumit’s parents that went about as well as you’d expect. Still, with Jenny and Sumit a united front, their relationship is more solid than several other couples’.
Angela Deem & Michael Ilesanmi
Episode 1 featured only one half of this couple, but for many fans it was one half too many. Angela’s return to the franchise has been lamented by many viewers leading up to Happily Ever After? season 7. Her debut was just as rough as fans are used to, with Angela making wild claims like she could get “any man” now that she’s transformed her appearance (but not her personality). If TLC was hoping Angela would deliver controversy this season, she may be past her reality TV prime, because she barely caused a stir on social media this week, and her storyline could be more passively annoying than cringey.
Kim Menzies & Usman Umar
As they were on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, Kim Menzies and Usman Umar are sure to be one of the most awkward and riveting couples this season. “Kimbaaaly” and Usman’s relationship is just so much stranger than all the other couples, with Kim having gone from fan, to superfan, to potential, to girlfriend, and now plans to propose to Usman. Everything about this couple’s storyline makes viewers groan with embarrassment, yet at the same time it’s impossible to look away. Fans can expect compelling content from Kim and Usman this season that will leave them flabbergasted.
Elizabeth Potthast & Andrei Castravet
Though many viewers have found Libby and Andrei Castravet’s storylines in the past to be more boring and obnoxious than cringey, this season the couple are primed for a different sort of journey. While Happily Ever After? season 7 will presumably feature Libby’s second pregnancy, episode 1 introduced her desire to pursue a singing career. Many fans found it to be a record-scratch moment, because they had no idea Libby had any musical talent. Libby and Andrei even plan to turn a room in their house into a studio for Libby to go full-throttle on her singing dream. If this storyline is kept up, it could be the source of some of the cringiest content viewers will see all season.
Big Ed Brown & Liz Woods
Probably the least-anticipated couple this season are Big Ed and his fiancé Liz Woods, though they didn’t even make an appearance in episode 1. However, from what fans have seen of them in the season 7 preview, the couple are likely to make viewers cringe in all the wrong ways. The trailer has shown Liz waxing Ed’s back, the couple discussing their sex life, and Ed even questions Liz’s sexuality in a weirdly homophobic moment. There’s a lot of groanworthy scenes from Liz and Ed up ahead, and unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) what fans have seen in the 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7 preview is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
