A Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic fan has made fan art of some of the game’s characters in the style of 2003’s Clone Wars animated series.
Fan art for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has reimagined Darth Revan in the style of 2003’s Clone Wars animated series. KOTOR is one of the most popular games in the Star Wars franchise. Originally released in 2003 for Xbox and PC, KOTOR introduced iconic characters such as Darth Revan, Kreia, Darth Malak, and more. While not considered part of the current Star Wars canon, the popularity of the RPG has not only led to KOTOR and its sequel KOTOR 2 getting Nintendo Switch releases, but also to the development of a full remake from Aspyr.
After months of rumors and speculation, the Knights of the Old Republic remake was finally confirmed late last year by its developer Aspyr, the studio that ported the original games to Mac, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch. The remake has been revealed to be scheduled for release on PC and is a timed console exclusive for the PlayStation 5. Not much is known yet about the KOTOR remake, including how big its changes will be from the original. But given that it’s being labeled a remake instead of a remaster, it’s likely that it will have some significant differences from the original in terms of visuals and gameplay. Previous reports have also claimed that the KOTOR remake is targeting a 2023 release.
Reddit user NerdiconPrime recently shared their Knights of the Old Republic fan art on the Star Wars subreddit, with another user CarterSevenFive sharing a bit more of it on the KOTOR subreddit. The fan art features several iconic KOTOR characters such as Revan, Darth Malak, and the Sith Triumvirate of Darth Traya, Darth Nihilus, and Darth Sion. They are done in Genndy Tartakovsky’s art style, who created 2003’s Clone Wars animated series as well as other shows such as Dexter’s Laboratory and Samurai Jack, to name a few. According to CarterSevenFive, the art is part of a larger fan-made animation project called Star Wars: Scars of the Old Republic.
The Clone Wars animated series, which began airing in 2003, was set in between the Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith films and put a spotlight on not only the franchise’s clones but also introduced Star Wars’ ARC Troopers, the elite soldiers of the clone army that worked closely with the Jedi. Additionally, the series introduced several characters that would later be featured in the movies, such as General Grievous and Commander Cody, as well as Count Dooku’s own apprentice, Asajj Ventress.
The fan art by NerdiconPrime definitely looks impressive and the fanmade animation project feels a lot like a successor to the Clone Wars animated series, albeit non-official or canon. Hopefully, NerdiconPrime and the rest of their team will continue working on their project, and share more images of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic characters in the 2003 Clone Wars style.
