The all-electric McMurtry Spéirling fan car, driven by ex-Formula 1 racer Max Chilton, has officially set a new Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillcimb record with a run of 39.08-seconds. This beats out Romain Dumas’ 39.9-second run in the Volkswagen ID.R back during the 2019 Shootout. The electric motors are connected to a 60 kWh battery pack and produce a combined 1,000 horsepower.
Two fans that send air through the 2,200-pound car to generate up to 4,400-pounds of downforce when the car is standing still, and the host of carbon fiber on the Spéirling also helped it set a new record. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on if we’ll ever a see a limited production model approved for road use. In other news, the 5,007HP Devel Sixteen is still nowhere to be seen.

This car is absolutely nuts. With the sound of the fan spinning up the car disappears off the line akin to a rocket ship, and that likeness continues on all the way up the Hill. Nothing has ever gone around Molecomb at such effortless speed, and its instant acceleration in a straight line is phenomenal,” said Simon Ostler, Goodwood Road & Racing Reporter.
