The Justice League has never looked better than in a new piece of fan art from illustrator Gabriel Larragán that gives the team a new look and lineup.
The Justice League is overdue for a makeover in more ways than one. A piece of fan art from one talented artist not only gives the team some killer new designs, but an exciting lineup that could seriously change their game.
DC Comics’ greatest assortment of heroes has been protecting their universe for years. From the moment they banded together to defeat Starro the Conqueror, heroes such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman have used their combined might to defeat some truly powerful foes. And while the team has had some serious firepower, the membership isn’t exactly consistent. The Justice League’s members can vary depending on who’s available or alive to add to its ranks. Over the years, the League has had some wildly different variations such as its International and Detroit incarnations with every generation having its own unique roster.
And one hypothetical lineup from illustrator Gabriel Larragán has found quite a unique makeup for the team and given them some amazing redesigns to boot. On Gabriel Larragán’s Twitter, the artist posted a message that read, in part, “I’m playing with my justice league designs“. A series of pictures accompanies the message showing Larragán’s redesigned heroes. First up is the Trinity of Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman. The Amazonian Diana towers over a stockier Bruce and a seemingly Kingdom Come-influenced Superman. The second picture features a Wally West Flash, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, a very alien-looking Martian Manhunter, and the animal totem-bearing Vixen. Larragán’s last crop of heroes is Green Arrow with his classic beard, a remarkably shorter Blue Beetle, Zatanna in her classic stage magician outfit and the ever-confident Booster Gold. As impressive as the lineup is, the artist promises more saying “still gotta add some more characters.“
Even without any additional heroes, users have already voiced their support for the lineup this Justice League fan art presents. With over ten thousand likes, Larragán has clearly struck a chord with fans. It doesn’t hurt that the artist has gotten super creative with the teams designs. But what really works with the hypothetical roster is just how well balanced it is.
The tricky part for a good superhero lineup is finding that right mixture of powers. The DC Universe has no short supply of heroes capable of dealing with powerful villains all on their own, but it’s not enough to just throw some strong characters on a team together. Ideally, the heroes selected to be members of the Justice League should represent the great variety found in the DCU. Larragán’s lineup does an excellent job of balancing magic, sci-fi/alien, and street-level heroes. Not only would it give the team a diverse power-set, it’d make a for a much more engaging read for fans. Hopefully there will be a Justice League that resembles Gabriel Larragán’s fan art sometime in the future.
