Senator Debbie Stabenow received quite a bit of backlash on social media after a video showed her bragging about why she is unconcerned about the skyrocketing gas prices that are crushing Americans.
Stabenow (D-MI) made the tone-deaf comments during a Senate Finance Committee hearing with Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen Tuesday.
The Senator gloated that she had enough money to purchase an electric vehicle and, as such, she could drive past the common folk and their misery at the gas pump.
“I just have to say just on the issue of that at gas prices; after waiting for a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle, I got it and drove it from Michigan to here this last weekend and went by every single gas station,” she said with a big grin.
“It didn’t matter how high it was,” added Stabenow.

Well, it kind of matters to some people, Senator.
Stabenow’s comments on out-of-control gas prices – ranging from the content to the wide-grinning delivery – could not have been any more tone-deaf if she tried.
She was immediately called out on social media.
Democrats, please double down on this messaging going into the midterms. Please. https://t.co/UVKYk9n3sO

Today’s AAA national average of gas prices hit a whopping $4.96/gallon.
On Joe Biden’s inauguration day, the price of gas stood at $2.39/gallon. The national average was $3.40 on the day the President announced a “major effort” to lower the cost of gas for the American people in November.

Stabenow’s comments reek of ‘Hey, I’m rich and don’t have to mingle with the peasants at the gas station’ undertones.
This is particularly odd since her net worth isn’t amongst the higher members of Congress and she was once ranked as one of the ‘poorest‘ members of Congress.
Well there’s a fun ad. https://t.co/kEVq6zJCs5

Democrats Are Okay With the Higher Cost of Gas
While reprehensible, Stabenow’s comments on soaring gas prices weren’t exactly made in a vacuum when considering the overall stance of the Democrat Party.
They don’t care that gas prices are crippling American finances. In fact, they’re happy about it because it helps promote their Green New Deal policies.
Just listen to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who suggested Americans should just buy electric vehicles if they don’t like the current gas prices.
Trump in 2020: “If Biden got in, you’d be paying $7, $8, $9. Then they’d say ‘get rid of your car!’”

Or Vice President Kamala Harris, who urged Americans to “imagine a future” with electric vehicles.

Or President Biden himself, who said the gas crisis “should motivate us to accelerate the transition to clean energy” and transform “our economy to run on electric vehicles” so “no one will have to worry about gas prices.”
Loosening environmental regulations won’t lower prices.
But transforming our economy to run on electric vehicles, powered by clean energy, will mean that no one will have to worry about gas prices.
It will mean tyrants like Putin won’t be able to use fossil fuels as a weapon.

Better yet, just take a look at Yellen, during the same hearing, saying “the critical thing is we become more dependent on the wind and the sun” amid rising gas prices.

None of this is realistic. According to a Reuters report in February, “Less than 1% of the 250 million cars, SUVs and light-duty trucks on the road in the United States are electric.”
That means very few people can relate to Stabenow, Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, and Yellen when they shrug their shoulders at the gas price crisis.
Ohio Representative Bill Johnson tweeted, “Wind and sunlight can’t go in a gas tank. How is this helping Americans who are struggling right now?”
It’s not helping struggling Americans. They don’t want to help struggling Americans. They don’t care about struggling Americans.
And they have no fear whatsoever of laughing right in your face.
