Liam Gallagher has told England fans to “keep the biblical vibrations going” with Oasis‘ ‘Wonderwall’ ahead of the team’s World Cup game against Mexico.
England clinched a late victory in the nail-biting knockout match on Wednesday night (July 1), sending Thomas Tuchel’s side into the last 16. Captain Harry Kane eventually secured a 2-1 win against DR Congo, who had taken a 1-0 lead in the first six minutes.
Kane and co. will now play Mexico in Mexico City in a last 16 tie at 1am BST on Monday (July 6).
Shortly after England’s dramatic latest game, Gallagher told his followers on X to “keep the biblical vibrations going”. It comes amid a resurgence of Oasis’ classic hit ‘Wonderwall’, which was played during an emotional moment at an earlier match.
“If the governments we put in power can’t bring it then it’s down to the people cmon England,” he continued. In a separate post, the frontman said: “Cmon England cmon Wonderwall.”
When asked by a fan how he would celebrate should England beat Mexico, LG responded: “Oh I’ll be on here giving all my Mexican brothers n sisters large amounts of grief.” Another tweet read: “Harry Kane lick it up to ras.”

Gallagher even predicted the score for England’s next game, telling a Mexico fan that they’re “gonna get smashed 3-0 Sunday”. He also said England “needs good vibrations until the mighty [Oasis] comes back”, adding: “Life is meant to be good not shit.”
Fher Olvera, frontman of Mexican rock band Maná, has since responded to another tweet in which LG predicted a huge 5-0 win for England.
“The Oasis singer said Mexico was going to lose to England 5-0. Come on, no way,” he said on Instagram (translation via Billboard). “Get real, dude! 5-0? Calm down! We’ll see on Sunday how it goes, dude.”
This morning (Friday July 3), Gallagher replied to a comment about the “Mexico vs. Liam Gallagher” online drama, writing: “It’s a game of football not a fight. Let’s not get carried away here kids everybody take a step back and [take a] deep breath.”
Later, he joked: “If you lot win I’ll never speak to you again and you can forget about the Oasis concerts.”

England players such as Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon were seen mouthing the lyrics to Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’ following their 4-2 win over Croatia last month. Noel Gallagher subsequently threw his support behind the tune becoming England’s 2026 World Cup anthem, saying the song “belongs to the people, and it was a magical moment between the people and the players”.
LG later reacted to the news that the 1995 single had seen a 50 per cent spike in streams on Spotify in the UK, ahead of England’s less impressive display against Ghana on June 23. “And rightly so it’s a fucking classic,” he tweeted, “and I sound BIBLICAL on it.”
During a recent interview, Noel said he “couldn’t believe” that the England team were singing ‘Wonderwall’ at the World Cup. “Do you know what, I thought it was a great moment,” he explained.
“I’m staggered that Jude Bellingham knows the lyrics, but it’s one of those songs.”

Looking back on the ‘Wonderwall’ singalong at England’s first match, midfielder Declan Rice told The Sun: “On the pitch after the game and we were just connecting with the fans, and they were singing. That was special.
“Being in Dallas, singing ‘Wonderwall’. There’s nothing like that first time.”
Kane said: “That was one of my favourite ever moments in an England shirt, especially at a major tournament. It’s the emotional connection with the fans, we know how much it means to them.
“They see how much it means to us. We have that connection right now.”
England’s John Stones, who also plays for Manchester City, created a playlist with Noel Gallagher in 2018. He revealed that Man City “always walk in” to his pick, ‘Wonderwall’.
Noel replied: “Would you not prefer ‘Rock And Roll Star’? ‘Wonderwall”s a bit ‘end of the night, my bird’s left me’ and all that kind of thing. It doesn’t strike me as something you play before the derby.”
‘Wonderwall’ – from Oasis’ second album ‘(What’s The Story) Morning Glory?’ – reached Number Two on the official singles chart at the time of its release. The song has since become one of the biggest-selling tracks ever, despite never topping the charts.
In 2024, ‘Wonderwall’ became the most-streamed song from the 1970s to the 1990s. It was previously crowned the biggest-selling Britpop track of the ’90s. The single was, of course, on the setlist for Oasis’ massive Live ’25 reunion tour last year.
