The live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is now available to stream on Peacock, and it has instantly flown to the top spot on the streaming service’s charts.
2025’s How to Train Your Dragon premiered on Peacock on Friday, October 10, and by Saturday, October 11, it became the most-watched movie by subscribers. Not only that, but the original animated trilogy of How to Train Your Dragon has also seen a surge in viewership, with all three movies in the top 10 on October 11.
How to Train Your Dragon tells the story of Hiccup, played by Mason Thames, who goes against Vikings norms by befriending a dragon named Toothless. Gerard Butler reprises his role as Stoic from the animated movies, while Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Gabriel Howell, Julian Dennison, Bronwyn James, and Harry Trevaldwyn also star. Original animated director Dean DeBlois directs the live-action remake.
Having released on June 13 in movie theaters, How to Train Your Dragon is both “Certified Fresh” (77%) and “Verified Hot” (97%) on Rotten Tomatoes. It also was a major box office hit, pulling in $635.74 million worldwide, outperforming each of the animated movies. It’s little surprise then that the movie became an immediate streaming hit.

As they say, a rising tide lifts all boats. With the live action How to Train Your Dragon a popular watch, Peacock subscribers are also watching the animated movies. How to Train Your Dragon 2 was the third most popular movie on Peacock on October 11, while How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is right behind it at #4. The original How to Train Your Dragon comes in at #10.
There’s more How to Train Your Dragon on the way, as well. More than two months before the live-action How to Train Your Dragon even premiered, a live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2 was confirmed, and given a June 11, 2027, release date; another blockbuster that could make 2027 the biggest year in movie history.
That news quickly had fans clamoring for Cate Blanchett to be brought back to portray her role from the animated movies, something that DeBlois has already addressed, but nothing has been confirmed regarding Blanchett’s potential return.
