Kanye West has issued an apology to former vice president Kamala Harris in his return to social media.
The rapper – now known as Ye – has been largely absent from X and Instagram over the last year and has been banned from the former platform three times in the past for offensive remarks. Recent days, however, have seen a flurry of activity.
In among posts thanking the Grammys for nominating his song ‘Carnival’ and praising The Weeknd’s song ‘Niagara Falls’, he took a moment to apologise to the recently defeated Democratic candidate for president.
In a riposte to a now-deleted explicit comment about Harris, Ye wrote on Saturday (February 1): “Kamala seems like a very nice human I just wanna say sorry to her kids”.

He also tweeted in praise of Donald Trump, writing: “Trumps back in office. Ye’s back a billionaire. The world might just be ok”. A follow-up tweet read: “I risked my life to wear a red hat then he turned it black,” presumably referring to the trademark red MAGA hat.

The only account that Ye follows on X is that of the company’s CEO, Elon Musk. Over on Instagram, his only follow at one point on Sunday (February 2) was Taylor Swift, although at publishing time, he had stopped following anybody.
In December 2022, Ye was banned from Twitter after he tweeted an illustration of a swastika inside a Star of David. Musk confirmed he had been suspended due to violating the platform’s policies “against incitement to violence”.
After eight months, Musk reinstated Ye’s account after receiving reassurance that he would not use the platform to share anti-Semitic or otherwise harmful language. Upon his return, he was made ineligible to monetise the account.
Ye has a longtime association with Trump, having been a vocal advocate for him during his first run for president in 2016. He briefly distanced himself from Trump in 2023 after the former president allegedly insulted West’s former wife Kim Kardashian. But, he renewed his support in February 2024, saying, “Yeah, of course, it’s Trump all day”.
Recently, Ye previewed snippets of new material from a DJ booth in Tokyo, which included a shoutout to the disgraced rap mogul Diddy on a remix of Future’s ‘Magic Don Juan’.
It is believed that the tracks played by Ye will be featured on his upcoming album ‘Bully’ – which he announced last September at a listening event in China. West told the crowd: “I got a new album coming out, it’s called ‘Bully’.” It’s not yet clear when the album or track will be released.
